What's next?
Chloe's Night (V), Part 2
The quiet was deep and undisturbed, the kind that only arrives when the world outside has stopped demanding anything. Andy held Chloe against his chest, her hair damp with sweat and her heartbeat still frantic under his hand. He felt the peace of it, the gentleness that sometimes arrived only after something wild had been loosed.
Then, with the tiniest click, the bathroom door opened and Claire stepped through.
She wore the thin hotel robe, nothing underneath, her hair slightly damp and her cheeks still flushed from whatever vigil she’d kept behind the door. Her ears, high and pale above her head, flicked once at the sound, then snapped flat as she took in the sight of Andy and Chloe in bed together.
It was the silence, more than anything, that made the next moment unfold so slowly it felt staged. Claire stood by the bathroom door, every muscle locked. She blinked three times, her pupils huge and nearly round in the low light, then looked at Andy, then at Chloe, then back again, processing each possible explanation and discarding them all. The notebook stayed clamped against her ribs. Her tail lashed twice, a low, nervous whip, before curling tight against her leg. It was the body language of a cat that had lost all faith in the furniture.
Chloe, half under the covers and half under Andy’s arm, went from mortified to frozen, her face set in a rictus of apology. “Oh God,” she tried again, but this time the words made it only as far as the air between them before dissolving. She looked down at the pillow, then at Claire, then at Andy, and there was no clear winner for which made her feel worse.
Andy disengaged gently from Chloe and sat up, his hand going to the small of Claire’s back before he remembered to check if she wanted it there. He stopped short of touching. “Sorry,” he said, then immediately realized it made no sense. “You’re okay. It’s late, we just—” His brain blanked on the next word. “I wasn’t expecting—”
Claire waved him off, a sharp side-to-side motion, then scribbled in her notebook at speeds that made the pen skip: I PROMISE I WASN’T SPYING I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW WHERE I WAS GOING UNTIL I WAS HERE. She held up the page, arm extended, as if surrendering it for inspection.
Chloe peeked over the comforter, her hair a mess, skin blotched red with embarrassment and exertion. “It’s fine, really,” she said, the words so brittle they sounded like they’d snap if you looked too hard. She tried to smile, failed, then tried again. This time it worked a little better. “You can come in. We’re not—we’re done, anyway. Right?” She looked at Andy, unsure if it was a joke or not.
He shrugged, a little sheepish. “We don't have to be,” he said.
Claire snorted, a tiny, involuntary exhale. Her face was so pink it was nearly purple, but she walked to the foot of the bed anyway, arms crossed over her chest and notebook held like a shield. For a second, she looked every inch the academic: oversized robe, bare feet, cat ears flicking as she searched for the right footnote.
Andy watched her. In the logic of the bond, he could feel the thrum of her embarrassment, but also a second emotion hiding underneath it—a curiosity, nervy and bright, like the afterimage left when you look at the sun too long. He realized, with a rush of affection, that it was the same curiosity she’d had the first time he saw her working through a puzzle. Even as a kid, she’d never let a mystery go unsolved, no matter how awkward it made her.
He said, “Is this—” then caught himself. “Chekhov’s Girl?”
She nodded, a vertical bob so fast it made her hair bounce.
“What does it want you to do?” he asked, keeping his voice gentle.
Claire stared at him, eyes wide, then shrugged, the motion slow and so awkward it seemed to take twice as much time as normal. She looked at the bed, at Chloe, at the dim lamp, then wrote: I think it wants me to be here. Not sure what else yet.
Chloe, who had spent the whole day observing Andy at the edge of something like an existential breakdown, suddenly seemed to understand that maybe she was not the most mortified person in the room. She sat up, folded the comforter around herself, and said, “You can stay if you want. I mean—if you need to. Or, if you just want to hang out, that’s okay, too. We can make room.”
Claire blinked twice, then nodded. She set the notebook on the nightstand with care and perched on the far edge of the bed, barely bending the mattress. Her tail twitched a single time, then curled flat around her thigh.
Andy watched her, then moved over so he was closer, but left a deliberate handspan between them. “Do you want to talk, or…” He let the or drift, letting her fill in the blank if she wanted. Claire’s face twitched—she clearly did not want to talk, or at least not first. She shook her head, a quick denial, then she pointed at Andy, and twirled a finger. He understood. Continue.
“Ah, we can,” he said, “but it’s really late. Did you want to—” Now it was his turn to be stumped. “I don’t know. Did you want to join us? Not in a weird way, unless you want it to be, I mean—”
Claire made a gesture like no, no, but thank you, but hesitant, tapering off as she looked at Chloe, then at Andy. Andy could almost see the gears turning in her head. Then she did something he’d never seen before: she reached across, grabbed the lapel of his shirt, and pulled him toward her for a kiss.
It wasn’t a long kiss, or a deep one, but it was a rare one: Claire had only ever initiated a kiss once or twice. This time, she did it with intent, then let go and looked at Andy, then at Chloe, waiting to see what would happen.
Chloe gawked, a hand halfway to her mouth. “Okay,” she said, and the word seemed to open something in the air. “Wow.” She looked at Andy. “You’re not going to say no, right?”
He shook his head. “Not going to say no.”
Chloe watched the two of them. She looked at Claire, whose breathing had gone shallow, and at Andy, who looked like he was still catching up to the new rules. Then, quietly, she asked, “Would you like to stay? Not just for the transformation, but because you want to?”
Claire nodded, small and shy.
Chloe smiled, slow and deliberate, and said, “Good. Because I’d like it, too.” She scooched back, making more space on the bed, then patted the spot between them. “Come on.”
Claire’s hesitation lasted about one more breath, then she crawled in, tucking herself in the space between Chloe and Andy. She folded herself small, but when Andy reached out a hand, she took it, and when Chloe put her arm around her, Claire relaxed into the touch, her ears finally unpinning from her scalp.
For a while, nobody spoke. They just lay there, three to the bed, Chloe’s head on Andy’s shoulder, Claire’s hand in his, and the sense of rightness so obvious Andy felt stupid for not having expected it.
Chloe was the one to break the quiet. “This is my first time, like this,” she said, then, after a second, “but I’m really glad I am with you.” She squeezed Claire’s hand. “You too, right?”
Claire nodded, then gave her a smile, ears twitching contentedly, then made a little gesture: a single, graceful arc of her hand, as if erasing something off the surface of the air.
Andy watched her, and he didn’t feel like he had to fix anything, or explain anything, or even prepare for what might come next. He just held on, as the three of them lay in the circle of the lamplight, the rest of the world held at bay.
He kissed Claire again, slower this time, and Chloe fit herself along Claire’s other side, curling her arm around Claire’s waist.
Claire’s breathing changed: it went slow, but heavy, and her tail stilled flat against the sheets. Andy pulled her closer, and Chloe did the same from the other side.
They lay that way for a while—Chloe spooned up against Claire’s back, Andy at her front, the three of them loosely tangled. The light from the lamp burned low, and the sea outside gave a constant hush, as if the whole world was pressing up against the glass just to hear what happened next.
Claire’s breathing had slowed, but not to sleep. Andy could feel the restlessness in her—the way her tail kept making one slow tap against the sheets, then going still, then doing it again, like a metronome that couldn’t find its tempo. Chloe, behind her, had her hand resting lightly over Claire’s ribs, thumb tracing idle circles, watching Claire’s face with the careful attention of someone reading a text in a language they almost spoke.
Then Claire reached for the notebook.
She wrote for longer than usual, crossing something out once, then held it up: Chekhov’s Girl keeps pushing me toward something I’ve thought about before but never— She’d crossed out the word asked. The replacement read: never tried. She lowered the notebook, then raised it again to show the next line: Being restrained. I think that’s what it wants. I think that’s what I want.
Chloe went very still. Andy looked at Claire—the squared shoulders, the ears pinned back, the pen still gripped in her hand like she was bracing for a verdict—and understood that this had cost her something to write.
He said, “Are you sure?” But he could see why her transformation had brought her in tonight, of all nights. Given Chloe's desires, it made sense.
He meant the question for Claire first. She nodded immediately, then hesitated, then reached over for the notebook and scribbled: I want to, but I’ve never. Her handwriting was shaky, but deliberate. She looked at Andy, then at Chloe, and added: Please don’t stop if I look scared. I’ll let you know if it’s wrong.
Andy nodded, took her hand, squeezed it, then looked at Chloe. “And you?”
Chloe propped herself up on one elbow, the blanket sliding off her shoulder, and smiled—nervous, but not unsure. “I did not see this coming when I woke up this morning,” she admitted, then glanced at Claire, then at Andy, then back at Claire. “But if you want to, I’d like to. Really.” The words sounded more ceremonial than they were, like she was speaking from a deeper register than usual.
Claire nodded, a big, deliberate arc.
Andy exhaled, and the nervousness in his chest folded in on itself and vanished, replaced by a hot, humming want that had less to do with sex than with the miracle of being known. He sat up, tugging Claire gently with him, then took her by the waist and eased her to a sitting position. Chloe followed, her body a warm shadow behind Claire, and together they worked the tie on Claire’s robe, unwinding it with the care of unwrapping a gift.
The robe fell open, revealing Claire’s pale skin, the long column of her neck, the faint blue veins just visible at her collarbone. She shivered—not from cold, but from being looked at, really looked at, by two people at once. Chloe’s hand drifted up to Claire’s shoulder, brushed a strand of hair away, and Andy saw the way the simple touch made Claire’s breath hitch.
“You can tell us to stop,” he said, low, into her ear. “Anytime.”
She nodded, didn’t break his gaze.
Chloe leaned in, kissed the tip of one of Claire’s cat ears, then the shell of her human ear, then moved down her neck in a slow, uncertain series of pecks. Andy, watching, reached up and ran a hand from Claire’s jaw to her chest, then down the inside of her arm, skin to skin. He marveled at the way Claire trembled in response—every touch seemed to echo through her twice, as if she felt things at a higher resolution than anyone else in the room. Which, Andy realized, she probably did.
He slipped the robe from her shoulders, Chloe helping at the back, and then it was off, puddled behind her. Claire wore nothing underneath. Her breasts were small, high and delicate, nipples the same pale pink as her lips. Down her torso, she was all muscle and soft curves, but what Andy noticed most was the way she held herself: shoulders squared, back straight, as if preparing for a test she couldn’t study for.
He leaned in, kissed her, slow and deep, his hand resting on her hip. Chloe, not sure what to do with her hands, eventually just wrapped both arms around Claire’s waist, then squeezed once, as if to say, I’m still here. Claire melted a little at that, her body yielding in a way it hadn’t before.
They kissed her together, Andy at her mouth and Chloe at her neck, at her ear, at the corner where jaw meets cheek. Then Andy and Chloe kissed hungrily, both sets of arms wrapped possessively around Claire. The catgirl let herself be bracketed by their attention, but Andy could sense her reaching for something she wasn’t sure she was allowed to ask.
He pulled back, just enough to look her in the eye. “What do you want?” he asked gently.
Claire stared at him, then at Chloe. She reached for the notebook again, hands trembling a little, and wrote: Tie my hands. To the bed. Please.
The last word was underlined twice, the ink pressed so hard it left a dent in the paper. She turned the notebook so both of them could read it, her ears flattening in embarrassment.
Chloe inhaled sharply, then let it out, a smile breaking over her face. “You sure?” she said, gentle.
Claire nodded, once, but firm.
Andy reached for her wrists, brought them together, and kissed the inside of each. He asked, “Do you want it now?” and she nodded again, eager, but nervous.
Chloe slipped off the bed, found the sash from Claire’s robe, and handed it to Andy with both hands. He thanked her, then turned to Claire, and made a show of looping the sash once, twice, around her wrists, before tying them to the headboard.
He did it slow, narrating each step. “This is okay?” he asked at every pause. “Not too tight?” And Claire, instead of nodding, said yes with her eyes, her whole face a blush.
When the last knot was tied, Andy sat back to admire her. Claire, naked except for the band of cloth binding her wrists, lay back against the pillow, her arms raised above her head, exposing every line of her body. Her chest rose and fell, fast at first, then settling into a deep, even pace. Her tail, which had been curling and twitching the whole time, now went limp against the sheets.
Chloe climbed back up, sat beside Claire, and stroked her hair. “You look amazing,” she whispered. “Like an angel.”
Claire closed her eyes.
Andy knelt between her legs and ran his hands up from her knees to her hips, letting the warmth of his palms settle her. He waited, let her adjust to being held, to being looked at, to the knowledge that she couldn’t move unless he let her. He ran his thumbs over the tops of her thighs, then up to her belly, then, carefully, to her breasts.
Chloe leaned in and kissed Claire again, her lips on the hollow of her throat, then lower, finding the pulse point and kissing that, too. Andy used his mouth, then his hands, to tease her—touching, tasting, letting the anticipation build and break and build again.
Claire tried to arch off the bed, but the sash held. The loss of control seemed to tip her from nervous to feral: every time Andy or Chloe changed rhythm, or focus, Claire gasped or exhaled, the sounds escaping her unplanned.
Andy let Chloe take a turn—she bent down and kissed Claire’s nipples, soft at first, then harder, then biting just enough to make Claire moan. Andy stroked her thighs, then her stomach, then found the place between her legs and slipped a finger inside, slow and deep.
Claire’s head fell back, her jaw working around sounds she couldn’t shape into language. Andy felt the shift before he heard it—her thighs locking, her breath going ragged in a way that was less release than overwhelm—and she tapped his thigh three times. Andy stilled his hand, pressed his lips once to the inside of her knee, and looked up at Chloe.
Chloe was already looking at him.
He rose toward her and she met him halfway, her mouth finding his, and they kissed while Claire lay between them catching her breath—a long, exploratory kiss, Chloe’s hand drifting to Andy’s chest, his fingers brushing her collarbone, then cupping her breasts, hefting them, thumbs running circles around her hard nipples, both of them unhurried. Claire’s tail, which had gone rigid, began to uncurl. Her breathing slowed. After a moment, one of her bound hands turned palm-up, fingers opening, as if asking to be held.
Chloe broke the kiss and laced her fingers through Claire’s without being asked.
Andy watched Claire’s face until the tension left it—until her eyes, which had been squeezed shut, opened again and found his. He waited another beat. Then he lowered his head and tasted her again, and this time when the sound came out of her it was different: not a gasp of too-much but something rawer, more willing, a sound that surprised even her.
When it crested again into overwhelm, he lifted away and kissed Chloe once more—she made a soft noise against his mouth—and Claire turned her head to watch them, her chest still heaving, her expression stripped of everything but want. Then they both turned their attention back to her.
Eventually, the orgasm hit her like a seizure, every muscle in her body convulsing, her hips slamming up against Andy’s mouth, her arms straining at the binding. She wailed, high and unguarded, and then again, and then collapsed, limp, breathing hard.
Andy pulled back, wiping his mouth, and kissed her stomach, then her hip, then her ankle. He looked up at her face, which was blotched and wet with tears, and said, “You’re perfect.”
Claire didn’t respond—she just blinked, letting the words land.
Chloe kissed her again, slow, this time at her mouth, and Claire opened for it, greedy. When Chloe broke away, she said, “Can I—?” and looked at Andy, then at Claire’s bound wrists.
Andy nodded. “She’s yours.”
Chloe straddled Claire’s hips and kissed her, deep and messy. Claire kissed back, her hands still tied, but her body totally unguarded now, soft and open.
Andy watched, hand on Claire’s thigh, and let himself get lost in the heat of it, in the intimacy of two women finding each other in the dark.
After a minute, Chloe broke away and looked at Andy, eyes huge. “I want to see you fuck her,” she said, voice thick, face beet red but unapologetic.
Andy looked at Claire, who nodded, slow, her gaze never leaving his.
He lined himself up, and pushed in, slow at first, then all the way, and Claire gasped, back arching off the bed. He fucked her with care—no sudden moves, no violence, just steady, deep, and full. She met every thrust, her legs wrapping around his hips, her tail curled tight around his thigh. Chloe, beside her, stroked her hair and whispered encouragement, the words blurring together in a stream of yes, good, beautiful.
It didn’t take long. Claire was already so close, every sensation wound tight. She came again, this time silent, her body shuddering so hard Andy had to hold her down. He let go only when she did, both of them sweating and spent.

He collapsed beside her and reached up to untie her wrists, kissing the marks the sash had left. Claire brought her hands down, flexing her fingers slowly—and then Chloe’s hand landed flat on Andy’s chest and shoved him onto his back.
“My turn,” she said.
She swung a leg over him before he could answer, her weight settling onto his hips with a confidence that left no room for debate. Andy looked up at her, surprised, and she looked back down at him with an expression that said she’d been waiting to do this for a while.
She reached down, found him, and guided him below her. “Hi,” she said, like it was a perfectly normal thing to say, and then sank down onto him before he could respond.
Then she leaned forward, both hands planted on either side of his head, and her breasts swung forward and pressed into his face, and she immediately dissolved into giggles.
“Sorry—” she started, laughing, her whole posture cracking open with it. “Sorry, I thought that would be—” She laughed again, helpless, her forehead dropping to his. Andy, half-smothered and grinning, turned his face to the side just enough to breathe, then turned it back and kissed whatever was in front of him, which made her laugh harder. “Oh God,” she said, dissolving. “I had a whole—I was going to be so—”
Andy, his face buried, reached up and gripped her hips, holding her still. He said something that didn’t make it through the warm press of her skin.
“What?” she managed, still laughing, her voice muffled against his hair.
He turned his head just enough to free his mouth. “I said—” His lips brushed the underside of her breast, and he paused, tasting salt and something sweeter beneath it. He licked again, slower, and felt the shiver run through her. “Don’t move.”
She tried to obey, but her body betrayed her—her hips rolled once, involuntary, and the laughter died in her throat as his tongue circled her nipple, then closed around it. She gasped, her fingers tangling in his hair, and when he pulled back just enough to speak, his voice was rough. “Or do. But I’m drinking.” He took her in again, deeper this time, and the sound she made was half-laugh, half-moan, her thighs tightening around his ribs. The first warm spill hit his tongue, and she arched into him with a broken, “Oh—God, that’s—” before dissolving into breathless, disbelieving giggles.

Across the bed, Claire had drawn herself up onto one elbow, her wrists loose now, the sash forgotten. She watched as Andy’s hands slid up Chloe’s sides, thumbs brushing the undersides of her breasts—full, heavy, swaying slightly with every shift of her hips. Claire’s ears tilted forward, her head canted like someone listening to a language she almost understood.
Andy cupped Chloe’s breasts, testing their weight, then rolled her nipples between his fingers until they hardened again. Chloe gasped, her back arching, and Andy leaned in, taking one into his mouth. Claire’s fingers twitched, then stilled, as if she were memorizing the way Chloe’s breath hitched, the way her thighs tensed around Andy’s waist.
Claire reached out, tentative, and traced a slow circle around Chloe’s other nipple with her fingertip. Chloe whimpered, her hips stuttering, and Andy pulled back just enough to murmur, “Don’t stop.” Claire obeyed, her touch firmer now, pinching and teasing while Andy alternated between licking and biting, his free hand sliding down to press against Chloe’s clit.
Chloe’s hands flew to the sheets, knuckles white, her body trembling. “Please,” she begged, her voice breaking. Andy slowed, then stopped, his fingers stilling inside her. Chloe whined, her hips bucking uselessly. “No—don’t—”
Claire’s fingers tightened, pinching just enough to make Chloe’s back bow off the bed. Andy’s hands slid up to join hers, both of them teasing, squeezing, rolling Chloe’s breasts between their fingers while she writhed between them. Chloe’s nails dug into Andy’s shoulders, her body shaking, her breath coming in short, sharp gasps. Every time she got close, Claire would ease off, her touch turning feather-light, and Andy would still his hips, leaving Chloe suspended on the edge, trembling.
“You’re going to break me,” Chloe choked out, her voice thick with frustration and need.
Andy only smiled, his lips brushing Chloe’s ear. “That’s the idea.”
Claire’s lips curled into something almost like a smile. She leaned in, capturing Chloe’s nipple between her teeth, biting down just hard enough to make Chloe cry out. Andy chuckled darkly and resumed his rhythm, fingers curling, thumb circling, until Chloe was panting, her body coiled tight.
Then he stopped again.
Chloe sobbed, her head thrashing. “I can’t—”
Andy kissed her, slow and deep, while Claire’s hands roamed, pinching, teasing, never letting Chloe settle. “You can,” Andy murmured against her lips. “You will.”
They edged her like that—Andy’s fingers, Claire’s mouth, the relentless push and pull of pleasure just out of reach—until Chloe was a trembling mess, tears slipping down her cheeks, her body shaking with the effort of holding back. Only then did Andy finally let her fall, his fingers moving faster, his mouth crashing down on hers as Chloe shattered, her orgasm ripping through her with a broken cry.
She collapsed against Andy’s chest, boneless, her breath coming in ragged gasps. Claire watched, her ears still perked, her expression unreadable—but her fingers, still resting on Chloe’s skin, traced idle patterns as if she were committing the moment to memory.
For a long time, nobody spoke. They just lay there, letting their bodies learn each other, the heat between them smoothing away every leftover trace of fear.
When Andy looked over, Claire’s ears were cocked sideways, the loose, unfocused angle they reached only when she was truly at rest.
She didn’t reach for her notebook.
Not for a very long time.

They stayed in the quiet long after the world outside had gone completely still. The covers were mostly off, kicked to the foot of the bed and left there, but none of them shivered: the room was warm from the press of three bodies and the remembered friction of everything that had just happened.
Claire fell asleep first. She always did, when she let herself. She tucked one arm under Andy’s neck, curled the other in against Chloe’s shoulder, and, as Andy watched, he could see her physically relax—each muscle letting go, each finger unclenching, until she lay there perfectly arranged, as if she’d planned where every limb would go before allowing herself to drift off. Her breathing was a gentle, even thing, her mouth open just enough to let out the smallest, catlike snores.
Andy was next. He’d meant to stay awake and think, to stare at the ceiling and puzzle through the knot of possibilities that tomorrow would bring, but instead he let the feeling of Claire’s arm and Chloe’s hair and the low buzz of post-orgasm peace carry him toward sleep. His last thought, before slipping under, was that he wished someone had told him how rare this feeling was, how much work it would take to ever get here.
Chloe lay awake the longest. She stayed quiet, listening to the patterns of the others’ breaths, counting the seconds between Claire’s inhale and Andy’s exhale. It was soothing, in its way, the kind of pattern she’d tried to create for her students, the rhythm of trust and order and safety. She traced her thumb over the bones of Andy’s hand, then let herself catalog everything she was about to lose, in detail, because that was how you honored something before you said goodbye.
She thought about her classroom, the way the morning sun hit the reading corner, how she’d taught her last crop of kids to tie their shoes and use kind words even when no one was watching. She thought about the old cat at her apartment, and the parents who’d always needed her but never quite told her so, and about the baby she’d meet in a few months, and the life she’d wanted to build for him. She saw all of it with brutal clarity, and for the first time, didn’t try to talk herself out of wanting it.
The weight of it was almost unbearable, and yet—when she thought about Andy, and Laura, and even Claire, whose trust had been so hard-won and so rare—she found something inside herself that felt bigger than wanting. She didn’t know if it was loyalty or love or just the sense of having finally found the place she was supposed to be, but she knew, absolutely, that if tomorrow they asked her to walk through that last door, she would go. She would go for the memory of being wanted, of being enough, of having a family even if only for a single, perfect night. And for all the children this beautiful, impossible harem would bring into the world.
She lay there for a while, letting the idea expand inside her, and decided she would keep the answer to herself a little longer. There was no rush. The world would turn, and the question would come, and when it did, she would be ready.
Sometime before dawn, Chloe got up, used the bathroom, drank a glass of water, and then crept back to bed. She lay down, turned her back to Andy, and let him curl around her, his hand settling heavy and warm on her hip. The simple weight of it was all the future she needed, for tonight.
She carried two things down into sleep with her: the best day of her life, and the answer she’d found in the dark. For the first time, she let herself hold both, and refused to apologize for either.
When morning came, she’d let it go.
But for now, Chloe slept, the question answered and the night unbroken, the world outside still and waiting for what would come next.
