Child: Shadow demons

Shadow demons are the spies, scouts, informants, and assassins of The Nameless King. They are barely corporeal, their form always shifting and strongly dependent on the light around them, some say even on the people looking at them. If there are no shadows, they need to hide under objects or flee the area, as they cannot exist in bright light. If there is complete and absolute darkness, they have virtually no limit, extending as far as the darkness does.

They do still have some kind of body, however, being able to touch and manipulate their surroundings (as long as they aren’t brightly illuminated) and can even form the shadows that make up their body into tools, weapons, or everything else. Attacking them physically is entirely pointless, if you can even locate them, hiding in the shadows. The only way to kill them is with magic, although light magic does so with terrible efficiency.

The ability that makes shadow demons perfect for their role, is their shadowstep: Almost within an instant, they can travel from one shadow to another, even bypassing bright light. There they can hide and overhear conversations, **** targets or gather information on enemy forces. The only way to hinder a shadow demon is to eliminate all shadow or erect a magical barrier.
