Check out the student union.

You're not ready to head back to your dorm and you're trying to avoid being a shut-in here like you were before. You decide on checking out the student union building. You've already met a few new people, but there are still tons on campus you haven't even seen. The administration really hammered in the point of clubs during your orientation, so you may as well give it a try. The union building is underneath the dining hall, so you figure you can just head upstairs when you're done there.

You head back across campus. By this time, the air is really heating up and you can tell you're sweating a good bit, especially where your backpack sits. Maybe dropping it off at your dorm first was the better idea after all. You can tell the other students are having some trouble with the heat as well: they corral in the shade when they aren't walking, but most of them are probably hiding inside the buildings.

Once you enter the union building, you let the cool, dry air wash over you, drying your sweat. This floor of the building isn't too large, but there are a few lounge chairs scattered about, and a few computers set up in the corner. You only see two other people right now, independently watching the TV on the wall while on their phones. There's no need to interrupt them. You follow the hallway under the stairs which leads you to another open room.

This room houses a few more lounge chairs gathered around a pair of wall-mounted TVs. Unlike the lobby TV, there are a few students using them to play games. The closest two are playing a fighting game against each other, one you've played a bit before. You stand and watch for a minute before you figure you should move on. On the opposite wall is a large bulletin board plastered with fliers. You take a few minutes to look through them.

Most of the fliers are for clubs and other events going on around campus. There are also a few for furniture giveaways and other personal ads, but you stick to the clubs and events.
