Joanna signalled back to her lieutenant to affirm that the orders were understood and quickly divided up her troopers. One squad she sent to work clearing the landing zone so that shuttles could use the pad to bring in heavy equipment and reinforcements. A second squad were ordered to set up a perimeter defence, whilst Joanna led her third squad towards the colony's housing. As they neared the prefabricated units she ordered the troopers to split into pairs and search the buildings. Motioning for Trooper Kelly Arnold to cover her, Joanna took up a position beside the door of the nearest unit. A powerful kick from the boot of her power armour sent the door flying off it's hinges and Joanna dashed inside. She swept the room with her gunsight, ready to fire at the first sign of a hostile. The room was unoccupied.

A dozen bunkbeds lined the walls, this had evidently been a dormitory for the colony's construction crew. Towards the back of the room three of the bunkbeds were overturned and lockers, tables and chairs had been piled up against them to form a makeshift barricade. Joanna went up to the pile of furniture and looked over. Several tools lay on the floor behind the barricade and scattered around were the shredded remains of the orange jumpsuits worn by construction personnell. Vaulting the barricade Joanna took a closer look. Several splashes of blood were evident, but the amounts indicated only minor wounds.

"You getting this on the combat cam ok Liuetenant?" Joanna asked. "Looks like the workers put up a fight in here."

Joanna picked up a crowbar, a thick green liquid had dried on one end. Evidently the fight hadn't been entirely one sided.

"Looks like evidence of non human origin." She reported. "I'll send this back up on the first shuttle for analysis."

Over the comm signals from other troopers began to come in, reporting similar findings in the other buildings. Corporal Lopez also reported that she'd found the unit housing the colony's chief administrator. Joanna acknowledged the message and told Lopez not to touch anything. Handing the crowbar to Trooper Arnold, Joanna headed for Lopez's position. If the colony's chief's computer was still in one piece it might hold clues to what had happened here.
