Check in

On Saturday, you and Mazzy are relaxing after breakfast when there’s a knock at the door. You answer it to find Edward from the AWIO, here for the weekly check in. With everything that has happened, you’ve completely forgotten about that. Edward laughs when you tell him that, and he waves off your apology.

“Don’t worry about it, Brian. I’d say it’s a good thing, you two are well bonded already, which makes my job easier.”

You lead him to the living room, sitting down beside Mazzy, as Edward sits in the nearby chair. You smile as Mazzy scoots closer, as she always does. Edward smiles at the two of you.

“So, it seems obvious that things are going well between you two!”

Mazzy nods. “Very well! I couldn’t be happier!”

You chuckle. “Agreed. Mazzy is the best thing to happen to me, no comparison.”

Edward makes a note, still smiling. “Wonderful! Rachel had nothing but good things to say about you two, so I’m glad to see that continuing. Now, have you two spent much time out and about? It’s important to get used to the attention, both positive and negative.”

You nod. “When we can, yes. And Mazzy managed to make a new friend already.”

Mazzy grins. “Dakota is fun! She’s coming to hang out with us soon!”

Edward looks at Mazzy, and she giggles. He chuckles, writing more notes. You wonder what that was about, but Edward changes the subject.

“So, I should mention that I just came from another sponsor visit, and they mentioned you. Do you know a Dave and Lisa?”

You nod. “I do, they’re my good friends, and I work with Dave.”

Mazzy grins. “They’re coming over for dinner again tomorrow! I’m making steaks!”

Edward smiles. “Well, they also had nice things to say about you two. They asked me not to tell you about who they’ve sponsored, so I won’t. All I’ll say is they seem as happy as you two.”

He stands up. “Now then. I know it’s unnecessary, but I’m required to do an inspection. Do you mind if I take a look around?”

You grin. “Of course. I think we hid the bodies pretty well.”

Mazzy laughs. “Just don’t look in the closet!”

Edward rolls his eyes. “If I had a dollar for every time I heard that joke, I’d be rich. One of these times it won’t be a joke…”

You shake your head. “Nah, you’re fine. We won’t start murdering for a couple weeks yet!”

Edward rolls his eyes again, and starts walking around to do his inspection. Meanwhile, Mazzy is tapping away on her phone. After a minute, she looks up at you. “Dakota is coming over.”

You chuckle. “Didn’t even ask, hmm?”

Mazzy giggles and shakes her head. “Nope! I’m in charge now! Besides, I know you’re not gonna complain that I invited over a cute girl!”

You smile. “I suppose not. You’re tricky, you know that?”

Mazzy kisses your cheek, smiling widely.
