So, What Do You Do?
Check Out Fiona’s Stock
You venture to the right, shelves and shelves of potions, the kind that’s staple throughout the material plane, mana tonics, health fortifiers, ointments to accomplish various tasks from smoothing out wrinkles, to curing a variety of unfortunate infections.
As you approach the counter, the shopkeep rounds it to meet you, though she still holds that calm and slightly reserved attitude she still makes every effort to welcome you.
“Ah, I’m happy to see you’ve taken me up on my offer, shall we begin?” She asks though it doesn’t quite feel like a question as she guides you down the first isle on her side of the room.
The first group of items that really draws your attention is a group of moderately sized bottle that look more akin to a fish bowls filled with a swirling whirlpool of azure liquid, it doesn’t help that you can spot several fish circling the vessels every once in a while.
“These are water-breathing elixirs, temporarily morphing the consumer to allow for unfettered access to the depths, you’ll be glad you bought one should you be taking any nautical journeys”
“Oh and yes, unfortunately you need to drink ALL of the contents of this potion…” the implication making your stomach turn slightly as one of those little fish approaches the glass, staring at you, judging.
You spot a folded piece of paper tented in front of one of the rows of potions stating its price: 25 gold.
On a higher shelf you see another batch of oddly shaped vials, reminiscent of a twister or a top, their contents, a swirling purplish liquid that makes you a little dizzy, watching it flow within the vessels.
“This here is the premiere in non-lethal poisons, when contact with the skin is made it induces intense vertigo, utterly debilitating the target”
“…it’s strongly advised you use gloves when handling the poison, one customer tried to dip a dart in and some leaked down to his fingers mid throw… it was… messy..”
Once again you spot a paper tent listing the items and it’s associated price: 30 gold.
Further down the isle on the opposite side you spot a grouping of small bottles with a wide bottoms with a pair of arms jutting out of the sides providing handles, inside you can see what looks like a marble floating inside the thick amber colored contents of each bottle.
“Often times the tasks ahead ask that we give 100% of our strength, sometimes they ask for more still, that is where this tonic comes in”
Just as before the price is laid out before you on a paper tent: 40 gold.
Stepping into the next isle you’re greeted by the next set of items, the first of which being a being a group of red and blue potions, each just large enough to fill out your palm.
“Sometimes there’s just no beating the classics, healing and mana regeneration are staples of the adventurous lifestyle, and I can assure you, everything you buy here is quality”
As expected, the cost is presented with both products sharing the same price: 50 gold
You nearly pass by a set of bottles that appeared to be empty before noticing the price laid out in front denoting this as invisibility potions, picking a bottle up supports this as it feels full.
“Ah, apologies, our recipe for brewing this particular potion renders the liquid itself invisible as well, worry not, the potion is QUITE effective”
Taking a second glance at the price tag causes your eyebrows to raise, one bottle costs 70 gold.
As though having anticipated this, Fiona is quick to speak. “Expensive, I know but you’ll be glad you purchased this should you run afoul of some of the nastier creatures out there”
Press onwards; coming across a small stretch of shelving that seems reserved for a series of bottles that appear to have been molded after a flickering flame, resting in each of these bottles are a orangish-yellow liquid that makes the bottles themselves warm to the touch.
“Ah, these are quite popular amongst the more adventurous students here, upon drinking the liquid it will rapidly transmute into a plasma which your body will violently reject…” she says before stopping herself, no doubt aware of how repellent her explanation is. “…It will allow you to breath fire as a red dragon does.”
The price for these potions seem fairly cheap for what they supposedly do; 35 gold.
With that you reach the end of the last shelf, having zigzagged your way back to the counter once more, Fiona close by.
“Apologies for the limited selection today, much of our inventory has gone missing after a recent… incident..” she says, the stony facade faltering ever so slightly as her thoughts turned to this ever ominous ’Incident’.
You sense something in her voice, like fear mixed with something else… anger..? Confusion..? If you inquire further you’ll need to play it smooth, smoother then your used to anyway…
Though yet again, you hadn’t come here to solve a strangers problems, quite simply this isn’t your problem.
