Chapter 31 verdict

(William POV)

William turned and saw the girls returning. They must have finished deliberating and the verdict was about to be delivered. Would he really be able to do what was expected of him? William doubted it, but in any case, it wasn't as if he really had a choice.

“The verdict's in and you'll no doubt be pleased, but Charlotte's only been sentenced to the equivalent of -13 VP.” said Dakota with a smile.

William really hated smiling. Nezoko despised them, but Dakota enjoyed torturing them. As far as Charlotte's sentence was concerned, she was in the middle of the pack. This was hardly surprising given the number of votes that must have gone against her. He did, however, have a question to ask.

“How much time do I have to choose the punishment?” he asked.

"You have no time. You have to inflict it right away. But if you don't feel up to it, I'd be happy to take on the role.” said Dakota.

This was clearly the worst possible scenario. A pop-up window appeared in front of him and, like last time, offered to reduce Charlotte's sentence if he made the decision alone. Seeing how the previous discussion with her had been to no avail, William didn't hesitate and accepted the reduced sentence.

Everyone around him stopped moving, as if time had stopped. Well, not quite, because if time were stopped, he wouldn't be able to see anything, as there would be no light in motion.
