Chapter 12

Betrayal

Katherine had been staying with us for a few weeks now, in that time we had become friends, we would talk for hours about anything that came to mind, a favourite topic of ours being her homeland. I had told her that one day we could travel back to her homeland. I had wanted to visit in my previous life, but never had the opportunity, so I was more than open about going there. Katherine was truly unlike what I knew she would become in the future, with my knowledge I hoped that I could prevent what she would inevitably become. The first step in that was to convince Klaus to give her an elixir that would bring her back from ****. I knew in the show it was Elijah who had the elixir made out of his love for Katherine, but he, I mean, he would not go out of his way to save Katherine. This left it down to me, luckily I already had the elixir in my possession, having given my heretics the recipe to create it, and they had not let me down. I had already approached the subject with Klaus after successfully convincing my other siblings to help me in my plans, and Klaus surprisingly seemed willing to hear me out. I knew what this whole plan meant to Klaus, with a doppelganger, the first part of the sacrifice to unlock his hybrid nature had been achieved. All that he needed after that was a vampire, a werewolf and the moons. The first vampire would be easy, same with the werewolf, as dozens of packs of them roamed England. The moonstone, on the other hand, was difficult to find, thankfully though Klaus and Elijah had spread tales of it being instrumental to werewolves and vampires, causing both species to look for it. The tale they told stated that if found and used by vampires, it could remove our vulnerability to the sun; if used by werewolves, on the other hand, it would remove their ties to the moon so that they could control their transformations. Both tales, of course, are false, but they gave both species the incentive to look for it.

Walking through the halls of the mansion, I noticed how eerily quiet it was, unusual considering the number of people that always occupied this building. I had just returned from the town, and Finn had asked me to talk with some of the richer villagers in the hopes that we could make trade deals with them. I walked through the halls into a large dining room, finding some vampires at last, around two dozen of them stood talking to each other in the room all seemed to be sired by Klaus as far as I could remember. Just as I was about to open my mouth to speak, I felt a sharp stabbing pain lance through my back, and my strength immediately started to be sapped away. Looking down, the tip of a silver dagger stuck out of my chest. With every bit of my strength, I fought the magic of the dagger, syphoning it constantly. Turning I saw the face of Klaus, looking slightly surprised that I still stood, "daggers how, why"? I asked him anger evident in my voice. "Do you really think I would just let them sink to the bottom of a river?" he answered, a smile on his face. Reaching for my sword, I used my free hand to create some distance between us, pushing him away, I slashed at him with a sloppy strike as the dagger had sapped away most of my strength. As I attacked him, the other vampires in the room pounced on me. Under normal circumstances, I could cut through them easily, but now I would have to be careful lest they overrun me. As the first couple reached me, I swung my free hand at their necks; their heads hit the ground with a dull thunk. I looked around, seeing my brother standing, watching the display of **** around us. The next few charged at me, attempting to subdue me. As each one came in, I slashed with my blade, the runes carved into its length causing each cut to set the victim alight. As the fight continued, my strength started failing even more. I needed to finish this fight, then remove the dagger still plunged into my chest. I fell backwards before using my control over blood to start pulling the remaining vampires apart, limb by limb, before finally crushing their hearts. The fight lasted barely a minute, as I turned toward my brother, his fist hit my face, my jaw cracked, and blood pooled out of my mouth. I slashed at Klaus, attempting to hack him apart, but each wound that landed only caused slight burns, unlike the lesser vampires that immediately ignited.

"Why, brother, why would you make me do this? You turned the others against me, all so you could save the life of that doppelganger", he screamed at me in a rage before jumping back towards me. "You **** me to dagger them all", he spat, rage burning on his face. "I had a plan, think brother, would mother really be a curse so easy to break?" I managed to get out while defending from his relentless attacks. I pulled together nearly all my magic and hurled a massive torrent of fire his way igniting a blaze that started to consume the room. He dashed at me again, claws extended, slashing towards my face, pulling the rest of my strength. I seized the blood in his veins and launched him through a wall. Trying to reach for the dagger to pull it out, I found myself unable to; instead, I **** what little amount of magic I had to **** into the dagger, and it shot out of my chest like a bullet before I collapsed on the ground. Just before falling ****, my heretics burst into the room, hauling me away.

I woke up a few hours later, and all I was on a boat, although I was unable to tell anything else. I sat up as Marco entered the room with a human crew member next to him "Drink, my sire, you are still not back to your full strength" I did exactly as he asked, drinking the crew member before he began to speak. "We managed to get your sister out as well, unfortunately, we could not get the rest of your siblings out", he explained to me with a solemn look on his face. I nodded and thanked him before asking where we were headed. Apparently, we were on our way back to France.

We had been on the boat for almost a week now, not only had Rebekah been saved, but Aroura, Rose and even Katherine were also with us. Unfortunately, one of the heretics who was with us, Anne, had lost her life in the fight; Klaus had got to her and tore her clean in half. I was angered by this, not only had he daggered me and my siblings, but he had killed one of the heretics, my friend, a second family to me, and he killed her. Although this saddened me, I would make sure her **** would not be in vain, I would recover my strength, then go after Klaus and undagger my siblings.
