Cerve interrupts

The moment of shared relief hangs for a moment and then turns stale. Neither of you knows how to continue this conversation. You toy with the idea of asking more pressing questions at the risk of turning this into an inquisition just to puncture the silence. You're both relieved when Cerve interrupts.

“Excuse me” she says, voice warm and lightly amused, “but it's almost midnight, Alex doesn't have to work anymore but I know James has a project to present in the morning.”

She glances between the two of you.

“Jasmine can of course sleep over if she wants but I'm going to insist on some sleep.”

Now that she says this you really are pretty exhausted. It's been a long day, and Jasmine doesn't look like she's been sleeping very well recently.

Jasmine’s shoulders drop another fraction. “Yeah. That… that actually sounds good.”

Cerve leads you to separate rooms and you're soon laying down. You expected to have trouble falling asleep but were unconscious nearly as soon as your head hit the pillow.
