Celebratory Drinking

Back at The Copper Tankard, our little party gathered around our own table. Bill filled our mugs high, my whiskey, Sofia’s beer, and Lucille’s wine.

“Cheers!” We all said in unison, raising our glasses together in celebration. I took a large sip from my glass, savoring the taste. I set the glass back onto the table, feeling a hand on my shoulder. I turned around to see a group of adventurers.

“Thank you for protecting that graveyard,” said the man in front. “Next round’s on us!” He tossed a few coppers to the Bill. “Keep up the good work rookie. I’ll look forward to seeing how far you all can go.”

“Thanks,” I said, shaking his hand before turning back to my party. “You both did really well back there.”

“Thank you, Flynn. Your planning allowed us to see that victory,” said Lucille.

“Yeah. The plan went well, at least until they got away,” Sofia said, sipping her beer.

“Yeah,” I said, not making eye contact to hide my blush.

“What’s wrong, Flynn?” Lucille asked. I started to panic a bit. “Getting drunk already?” Never mind.

“Psh, I can toss a few more back,” I said, taking my next drink from Bill. This would turn out to be a mistake. Lucille took this as a challenge. She demanded we have a contest, even roping Sofia into it as well. After an hour of the contest, Sofia was ****, head down on the table, snoring. Twenty more minutes, and I was about ready to black out.

“Annuthher,” Lucille said, drunkenly throwing a coin towards the bar, missing horribly.

“Aannnothur?” I slurred, my drunken stupor causing my head to hurt almost as much as my bladder.

“Pha ha ha! Iken do thish allllll nite,” claimed Lucille. Not one to back down from a challenge, my drunken fool of a self raised my glass to toast her. A crowd had gathered around, looking on, some in horror, some in glee, as I downed my last mug of the night before my memory failed me.
