Carp family

These majority of this large family of fish live predominantly in fresh water wish with some exceptions also enjoying brackish waters.

The common carp, most menfolk would know this belongs to the carp family. The pharyngeal teeth of this fish is strong enough to crush the shells of snails.

1. Pharyngeal teeth: Most carp lack teeth on their jaw, instead they have tooth like boney protrusions in the throat of the fish. These wish will mostly eat the soft bodied invertebrates (snails and clams) or underwater vegetation as a result, but som of the larger varieties do eat fish as well.
2. A large appetite: Because these fish lack a stomach organ they need to eat a lot to make up for it.
3. Their acute hearing: Their swim bladder acts as an amplifier of sound as a result of a special (webarian)organ connoting their swim bladder filled with air to their inner ears. They are also sensitive to amtmospheric and depth changes through motion of the air in their swim bladder.

The pneumatic duct allows the fish to swallow air into their swim-bladders or release air from the bladder into the gut.allowing them to regulate their weight in water.

The fish counterpart of the merfolk of this family practice external fertilization. But do not be concerned although they may carry over certain traits or courting behavior as a result, most mermen enjoy the rutting type of intercorce and will thus have some form of externa genitals to fuck each other with. Thus their penis may appear either between their pectoral finns or just above their vent, and will easily produce sperm when stimulated.

The mermaids on the other hand, may either only have a vent, or they may produce a proper vagina, either in place of their vent or up by their pectoral finns. It's all a matter of taste.
