Call Me

The hairs on Jack's arms stood on end as the powerful magic that fueled the two godlike figures faced off against each other. As Black Adam slowly descended through the hole in the ceiling, Jack ducked down behind the counter of the customer service desk, hoping to make it out of the building alive. He knew, just as all residents of Metropolis knew, that the best way to survive a metahuman attack was to get away, but as Wonder Woman was currently standing by the entrance to the store, and the fact that her fall had knocked a number of shelves down blocking the back door, hiding was Jack's next best option.

"You're come a long way from Khandaq, Adam" Wonder Woman said, "We are both visitors to this land. Must we fight? Surely we can find a way to avoid this conflict."

"Enough chatter, woman," Black Adam spat, "I have made my intentions clear, and any who stand in my way will suffer. There is a new magic afoot in this city, and I mean to stomp it out before it can grow."

"I know not of your new magic," Wonder Woman continued, "but I would remind you to mind your words. My patience is not limitless. Now return to your homeland or..."

"Or what, Princess?" Black Adam laughed, "Or you'll be thrown through the roof of another building?"

The Amazon didn't both retorting. Feeling particularly brave, Jack peaked over the counter just in time to see her rush forward with such speed that she seemed a blur. The concussive **** of her fist hitting Black Adam's jaw, blasting the man through the back wall of the store knocked the wind out of Jack. Bending over, he tried to catch his breath as he listened to the battle, now, thankfully, outside. Despite the distance between him and the action, the hairs on his arms did not go down. In fact, it got worse, spreading to his head, the wavy hair atop his skull standing straight up. It was as if he was surrounded by static electricity. Sparks began to pop around him and, for a moment, his vision became blurry.

Then, as quickly as it had happened, it vanished.

Front the street, Jack heard a man yell in frustration.

"You know not what you have unleashed!" Black Adam was shouting, "Chaos and Order have overlapped and now are released on our world. I can no longer feel it, but it is there, living, breathing. What happens next, woman, is on your head."

"Enough of your rambling!" Wonder Woman shouted back, "Fight or surrender. I tired of your talk!"

Again the noise of the battle intensified, shaking Jack to the core. He was terrified, huddling down in the store, knowing that at any moment he could die.

A loud crack of thunder split the sky and again Wonder Woman fell through the hole in the ceiling. Black Adam floated above the store, looking at the hero, unmoving on the ground.

"Your small mind has hurt the world, Amazon. I will help no longer. Khandaq will be safe under my eye, but you will suffer along with your people thanks to your intervention."

He looked up at the sky, lifted one hand, and flew away, leaving Jack alone with the **** Wonder Woman.

"Shit," he said, "Shit shit shit."

Jack wanted to run. The building could come down at any moment, but something told him that he should tell Wonder Woman what Black Adam had said before left.

"Wake up," he said in a panicked voice, giving her shoulders a small shake. Should he move her? Was it safe? He didn't know how her powers worked. What if she had a broken bone? Could she even get a broken bone?

Jack needed to leave her a note.

But not something she would ignore while in a daze, waking up from her beating. Grabbing a Sharpie from the mess on the floor, he pulled the cap off and quickly scribbled onto her forearm.
