Chapter 23 by Squiddog
The morning after
Business and departure
Rovni felt it before she even opened her eyes, the rising from the pit of her stomach, warning her of what was about to follow and rolled over onto her hands and knees before letting loose a stream of bile, Rovni's first sight for the day.
"Your not the only one struggling today Rovni." Came the voice of an orcish female from Rovni's right side, and when the stream of bile stopped and she managed to catch her breath she slowly raised her eyes to meet her guests gaze.
Tama, the settlements brew-master, stood safely back from her, looking almost smug at the misery she had caused, "Four years, countless drunken nights and painful mornings, and you top them all with your ale, could get dragons drunk of the stuff." Rovni muttered out, as she, with no small level of trouble, **** herself to unstable feet, to meet her friends gaze.
Tama matched Rovni in terms of height and build, but carried a paled, forest green, with dark curly locks of hair cascading over her shoulders framing her eyes of gold.
"And you are most welcome." Tama replied with a grin as Rovni took in her surroundings, she was in an empty stable, in her drunken state she had found a comfy pile of hay inside of a stable to sleep on, With a deep breath Rovni dunked her face into the trough full of water for a few seconds before pulling back and shaking herself off.
"So what have I missed?" Rovni asked, now fully turning, though still slightly unsteady, and meeting Tama's amused gaze.
"It is mid morning, more than half the settlement is wishing for **** and those that are not are currently doing business with Frine, your second, chieftess, to that end she asked me to fetch you" Tama rattled off quickly, and ushered for Rovni to follow her out the stable into the morning light.
It did not take long for the pair to join Frine a a bustle of activity in the center of the settlement, the crowd parted as the pair made their way to Frine, who to Rovni's confusion had two covered wagons stationed behind her as orc brought forward goods to barter.
Frine saw Rovni and paused her conversation with another orc, "You still live." Frine greeted with a grin.
"That is still up for debate, what did I miss?" Rovni asked as she came to stand beside Frine, and gave Tama a nod in thanks for the escort.
"Nothing much, as your second I have chosen to donate my own wealth to this and have been getting just some general supplies, the bigger stuff will be later." Frine explained, gesturing to the wagons, which Rovni saw a few crates of useful bits, hinges, nails and tools alike.
beside Frine sat her own wealth she had brought, as well as several sacks and a couple crates from Frine's many years of raiding, as well as Frine's personal weapon, a massive war-hammer with a metal shaft and leather bound handle, the hammer itself thick and bulky like a sledgehammer but tripled in size, befitting the massive orcish warrior.
Rovni joined the bartering as soon as she had assessed everything that had already been done, while mundane and time consuming it was necessary for her future as a chieftess, by late morning orcs were beginning to bring forward more specialized goods, spears, irons and chains, leather and strips of armor, a few swords and axes, shields and helms, more tools, by noon the carts were full and ready to go while the last orc walked of with the last of their wealth.
"And that is the last of it." Rovni sighed, mentally tired but satisfied, because of who she was and who Frine was the deals were far fairer than they would otherwise be.
"You will be off then," Came Rovni's fathers familiar voice from afar, her mother Thera following close behind him, "It is sad to see you go so soon." Thera added, smiling sadly at her daughter.
"Aye, while I would have liked to stay for a little longer I need to return to my hoard, however I will already be returning later than I said I would be." Rovni explained with a sigh.
"Than go in peace and safety, both of you." Ovgar stated, giving both a nod in approval and taking a step back, "Until next time."
Frine nodded and climbed onto the back wagon, drawn by to sizeable horses while Rovni said her own farewell before climbing onto the front cart and at her command the horses drew out from the square and soon the covered wagons were leaving the settlement and headed back for Rovni's hoard.
