Bulletgirl Appears in Your Apartment

"You called, so I came." Susan Kent-Barr, or Bulletgirl, appears in your apartment. She looks exactly as she did in 1940: beautiful and awe-inspiring in her superhero costume. She looks around your cramped, worn-out apartment skeptically and asks, "Are you my master?"

Your throat tightens. "I... I guess I am." The words stumble out, almost speechless at the sight of her. "My grandfather left me this book. It’s my first time using it. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing," you admit to Bulletgirl, deciding to tell her the truth.

Bulletgirl tilts her head, considering you for a moment before nodding. "I understand." She steps toward the window, her blue boots clicking softly against the floor as she takes in the towering buildings and the chaotic streets below. "What year is this?"

"2026. We are in Crestview City," you reply.

A faint crease forms between her brows. "I expected things to be a lot more advanced in 2026. I thought everyone would own flying cars by now."

You exhale, shaking your head. "Not quite. Some things have improved, but others... well, others have gotten much worse since the 1940s." You realize that Bulletgirl is a superhero from over eight decades ago, and you will need to teach her about the modern world. "We do have this thing called the internet, though. You’d probably like that."

Over the next couple of hours, you give Bulletgirl a crash course on modern times, covering everything that has happened since she was an active hero: the rise and fall of countries, the birth of technology that people from the 1940s could only dream of, and the new superheroes of the world.

"Tell me about crime," Bulletgirl asks suddenly, her voice sharp with curiosity. "Back in my day, my husband Bulletman and I fought many terrible criminals. Even super-criminals, like the Unholy Three, the Son of Dracula, the Man Without a Face, the Black Spider, and the Limping Mummy. Are there still villains like them in 2026?"

"There are," you say, nodding. "In fact, Crestview City has one of the highest crime rates in America. We have many petty criminals, criminal masterminds, and even supervillains here."

A slow, determined smile spreads across her face. "Good. Then this world still needs Bulletgirl." She turns to you, her eyes gleaming with renewed purpose. "This time, I’ll be the hero... and you can be my sidekick."

And just like that, your new life begins: living with Bulletgirl, fighting crime at her side, and with every passing day, growing closer and closer to her.
