Bridge monsters

" I'll take a look at those monsters then first. I don't want people getting hurt or even killed. But I am not going to risk my life too much."

" Merigold, if you'll do it, 300 crowns are yours. If you won't do it, you won't get shit. Understood ? "

" I understood very well."

Triss turned around and left the building. She spent the whole way up to the gate wandering about what kind of monsters those could be. It would be nice to have a witcher here. Better said, it would be nice to have Geralt here but I can do it. And also I need the money.

At the gate, the guard she pleasured in the morning winked at her and very graciously sent her on her way. After putting on a hood, her first stop was going to be the Seven Cats Inn. The previously mentioned bridge was right beside it but it wouldn't hurt to get some additional information. She walked briskly and no one was paying her much attention. With her fire red mane hidden, her most prominent feature, she soon stumbled upon the first of the seven cats laying carefree in the middle of the road. She guessed that the tavern must be the biggest building around and so she wasted no time and entered immediately. Inside, she approached a girl who was carrying drinks to tables.

" Excuse me. Could I ask you something ? " Triss asked her with a smile on her face.

" Uhh yeah sure miss. What do you need ? "

" I heard that there are some monsters around here ? "

" Oh that. Yeah. They say they live under that bridge. Some kind of weird things with fins. A fisherman saw them appear from under the water and then snatch his friend that was in a boat in front of him. Pretty scary stuff."

" Yes I definitely agree. Well thank you."

" Course. Anything I can get you by the way ? "

" Maybe one glass of wine please."

And so Triss waited inside the tavern for the shadow of the night as she slowly started getting ready. She knows of these monsters. Geralt said that they are his favorite although she does not remember their name. But she knows one thing and that is that fire will do the job. As the tavern got slowly cleared out and the people from all around went back to their homes for their well deserved and needed sleep. Soon after Triss also exited the tavern. The area quieted down, only the chirping of crickets and the occasional chatter of people from nearby homes was hearable. The sorceress moved towards the infamous bridge and the closer she got, bug chirps were slowly overwhelmed by gurgles and disgusting growls.

Triss peered down under the bridge and saw the creatures known to witchers as drowners. There were only three of them but together they posed as a threat to all unskilled warriors. Luckily, Triss had magic up her sleeve so she knew it should not be hard to deal with them but she needed to be careful not to alert any people who would rat her out for any crowns.
