Chapter 4 by CrawlingM CrawlingM

What does he wish for

Better times

"Fine miss silicon!" Martin typed into the prompt and continued to write. "I wish for better jobs, better pay, shorter commute, and good relationships with my colleagues."

"Haha, nice burn!" Joy the automated script replied in a blink before the next message popped up. "Wish analyzed, a grade 7/10 complexity wish. Wish might take a while to actualize. Type 'Yes' to continue!"

"Yes!" Martin typed and rolled his eyes again, glancing up and seeing the car queue was beginning to move a dozen cars ahead of him. Perfect!

"Wish actualization initialized, ETA until completion 4-12 hours," Joy typed along with a spinning loading wheel emoticon.

Perfect, Martin thought as he swapped over to the music app and began playing some music as he put the car back in gear and began driving towards work.

Martin was surprised that the traffic congestion pretty much evaporated after that, turning his normally hour and a half commute into a sixty minutes trip, thirty which he'd spend standing still.

As he sat down at work, he noticed his allotted work of the day was low hanging fruit. Half his normal amount of easily serviced customer emails. He was done with most of it half an hour before lunch, leaving him open to lean back and surf the web a little.

For some reason, his browser history seemed to have been fucked up by various sites he'd never have any interest in joining, but whatever. He probably needed to uninstall the app tomorrow to make sure it wasn't installing various sorts of spyware or phishing programs on his phone.

"Hey, Martin," one of a group of colleagues walking by paused by his cubicle. None of them had given him the time of day before, so he was surprised he even knew his name. "We're going for lunch, want to join us?"

"Um, sure?" Martin said as he closed his phone and got up, blinking a little as he got a bit light headed from the movement. "You're... Johnny from financing, right?"

"That's right," Johnny said as he put out his hand for a handshake. "Sorry that it has taken so long, we've been stressing on a project for the past six months. But from what I hear, I suspect you might be re-allocated to help us out soon."

"I am? Well, it might be news to me, but that sounds pretty good in my ears," Martin said with a smile as he joined Johnny walking down towards the lunch room.

Before long he was sitting together with a few more of Johnny's colleagues, listening to how far they'd gotten in the project. Martin was being relatively quiet as he didn't feel quite well, his head pulsing with a sudden headache for some unknown reason.

"Are you alright?" Johnny asked, his hand touching Martin's which was resting on the table. Martin blinked and looked down at himself as he felt the headache pass over him. "Maybe you slept poorly last night," Johnny asked with a small smile, some of the other guys around the table chuckled.

Is it an accurate assessment?
