Better Than I Hoped

"We're ready to pay." I say getting his attention. He looks up from his computer screen, most likely wondering why his camera wasn't working.

"Of course, let me see those." He reaches out for the clothes I'm holding. I hand them over and after scanning them he looks at Asami. "You look beautiful miss." He says grabbing a scanner tool from the counter. He walks around the counter and gestures to Asami. "I'm going to need to scan the tags on those if you don't mind?" He's smiling and steps forward not waiting for an answer. Asami looks to me for help, stepping back. I grab the guy's wrist and take the gun.

"Sorry but she can be pretty shy, so if you don't mind ill take care of the scanning." He starts to say something but I cut him off. "Oh and don't worry, I worked at a place like this before, it'll show on the screen what I scanned so you'll know if I try to steal one." I step toward Asami and she her smiling. I scan the two items she's wearing and turn to hand the scanning tool back to him. The moment I see him I almost let out a laugh. He's starting to get red with anger but is barely managing to keep his customer employee smile. He takes the tool back quickly and starts reading the list, making sure I scanned everything. He turns to me, having gotten rid of his redness.

"That'll be 671.23$ with tax." He smiles saying this. I reach into my pocket when Asami starts talking.

"Are you sure?" She asks him. He just nods and asks that we hurry up since it's almost closing time. "I don't think it is. While I don't know what the tax is, I do know that the clothes cost over 100$ less than that." I turn to the cashier and see him turn red and start stuttering a reason. Eventually he says that there must've been a problem with the machine and re scanned everything, he just handed me the tool this time. Afterwards he said the price was 548.76$. I pay and leave, he tries to talk to Asami but she ignores him and walks away.

"That was cool Asami, I didn't know you were good at math." I say catching up with her.

"Math?" She stops and looks at me confused.

"Its the name given to addition, multiplication and the like." I say describing it the best I can.

"O-oh, no I'm not good with n-numbers." She admits turning away.

"Then how'd you know he was lying about the price?"

"It h-has something to do with m-magic, ill tell you at h-home." I pat her head and tell her that's fine before walking down the now empty mall. She follows me with a smile and humming. When we leave I check the time. 6:12 PM

"Its too late to cook tonight, do you want to pick something up on the way?" I turn to her and stop.

"S-sure, I'm fine with that." We walk home and pick up some burgers and fries from a fast food place. On the way I open my new notification.

This ring makes its wearer more charming. It is made if silver and has various runes engraved onto it. It slightly raises the RP gained and slightly lowers RP lost making it easier to charm others. +2 CHA while worn.

I put my hand in my pocket before equipping the ring so no one would notice. When we get home I see a box by my door. Its small, about a foot long and wide. I hand Asami the keys and pick it up. She unlocks the door and we enter. I set the box down and we go eat on the couch again, setting our bags on the coffee table.

"So... how'd you know he was lying?" I ask taking a bite from my burger.
