"What is this?" The knight raised his eyebrows warily. "Some kind of harness? Are you truly not done?"

"No..." Haruka shook her head. "When falling... pull cord... deploy sheet... save life..."

Bedevalus was silent for a moment in the collapsing cockpit. "You know... for a woman who relied on trickery for her duel, I find honor in your actions at the end."

"I found... honor in your actions... on my end..." the android responded with a weak smile. Seeing him roll his eyes, she simply gave a thumbs-up. "Good fight... good fuck... mission complete. Objective fulfilled... Can now deactivate..."

The Figurewatch had fallen far enough so that they'd gotten below the clouds, and Bedevalus could see the bridge of the Figurehead V below and in the distance. He saw Haruka stumble backward against the wall and realized she must intend to go down with the ship. "No, I'm sure there's some other mission out there waiting for you... Some other poor shlub who needs you to grant him a duel more than I do. Your place is among the stars with your captain and your ship. Do tell her I said to consider cleaning up a bit."

Before Haruka could say anything in response, Bedevalus grabbed her body and jumped from the cockpit of the flaming mech. Then, as his wings deployed from his back (ironically destroying the parachute Haruka had tried to grant him), he held her aloft and back like a javelin thrower. "Oh, they're gone." Jervale rose to stand, crossing his arms behind his back. "Captain Astara and Ensign Goshin have returned to the stars. I wonder if they revert or stay the same..." Jervale muttered the last part to himself under his breath.

"Just as well... Ha, friend butler, it was a strange duel, but a duel, nonetheless. I wouldn't be surprised if the stories of my strength have spread throughout the stars by now!"

"Oh, I'd say so, friend knight. See to it you deal with the rest of them too, okay? All those visitors who came, seeking the legend of the best fuck in the galaxy."

Not quite comprehending, Bedevalus saw Jervale leave... then, he saw a shadow begin to loom over the beach. They were shadows like individual rain clouds with sunlight peeking through on a stormy day...

When he rolled over on his back, he realized the sky was now filled with all manner of starships, many small, but some even larger than the Figurehead had been, all bearing down on the tower. Those visitors probably weren't seeking the crystal... instead, they had probably arrived in pursuit of something some loose-lipped travelers had told tales of.

Letting out one more legendary "Fuck!", the knight collapsed backward with his head in the sand, praying that one of the other defenders would rise to the task of fending off an exciting array of alien lifeforms and their fleet.
