Chapter 13 by NeedAMedic NeedAMedic

Stick with Becky or follow Liv as she chases down the source of the noise?

Becky begins to harvest the plants

As the door was finally shut once more, the lock left unlocked by her frustrated companion, Becky quickly turned toward the most valuable plant she could find, an exotic wild island rose. The flower itself, untreated, could be sold for thousands of gold, while the extracted nectar and resulting alchemical creations were often considered priceless.

Becky didn't have the good majority of her equipment, only the few precious tools she had managed to smuggle in. A part of her almost felt guilty for using inferior tools on such a rare and valuable specimen, but given that the alternative was to simply abandon it here to be sold to some greedy Lord, Becky supposed it would have to do. Under the light of the artificial sun, Becky began the arduous process of draining the invaluable nectar of the Wild Island Rose.

This rose was perhaps the single most valuable thing she had ever laid her hands on. While most alchemical ingredients had a small range of similar effects, the wild island rose was only known to be used for one thing, and one thing alone--salvaging the lives of those on the very brink of ****. It was a sort of bizarre wonder compound which had almost no effect on healthy individuals, and could even cause further damage to anyone that was only slightly injured. But, if administered at proper doses, carefully, as an individual was genuinely dying, the rose could not only act as an incredibly potent healing agent, but restore the individual beyond their healthy state. It seemed to repair even the slightest rigors of daily life, pushing the subject into a sort of 'hyper-vitality.'

Old men could become young again, diseases would be cured, limbs regrown, but that was only the healing property. People who consumed the rose's nectar were rumored to be more durable than others, able to react faster, build muscle more quickly-- it was even supposed to have an effect on their personal beauty, though the fact that it had to administered to the already injured meant that trying to imbibe it carried an additional threat of ****, should the user succumb to their wounds before the rose nectar took effect.

Of course, Becky didn't desire the rose purely for its effect, no mostly she wished to study it. It was so rare, and so difficult to obtain, with such a potent known effect, that it was almost never put up for study. Even most trained alchemists would rather sell it and retire than bother with the excruciating and hit-or-miss process of research.
