Chapter 6 by rdckrd rdckrd

Becca looks for answers

“Mary?! Mary?! Where are you Mary?”

Becca had been pacing back and forth in front of the entrance to the school for ten minutes to no avail.

“Jesus, you are loud!”

Becca whirled around to find herself staring face to face with a tall, scrawny figure with a soft, delicate face and dark, but not deep voice.

“And you are an ass! Also, who are you?”

“I’m Jay Miller. We’ve had classes together for six years?”

“Huh, really? I must have missed you, probably because of your bad attitude.”

“If you’re looking for Mary, she’s not here. She always leaves the entrance at ten to five. She didn’t today.”

“How do you know that, stalker?”

“Because I volunteer in the media center after school every day and then wait for my dad to pick me up right here. She always comes out here at ten to five, says good night, and then walks home. Unlike you, she’s polite.”

Becca’s patience was wearing thin.

“I didn’t ask for your opinion.”

“Well you got it. Why are you looking for her anyways?”

“I said something stupid to her earlier today. I said she wasn’t cute and that the school sex demon wouldn’t abduct her because of it. It was stupid and…pretty rude.”

Jay’s eyes went big.

“Sex demon? How do you know about that?”

“Everyone is talking about it. It’s just a stupid rumor.”

“A rumor? What a stupid thing to say! These things should not be taken lightly!”

“What are you saying, that the sex demon is real?”

Jay looked around frantically and then, in a hushed voice, said, “look, I don’t expect you to take this seriously, but it is serious. The occult isn’t something to play around with.”

Becca wanted to blow this weirdo off, but something in her gut told her not to. She was worried about Mary. Something felt very wrong here.

“If I wanted to know more, where would I go? I’m serious, by the way.”

Jay looked around again.

“If you are serious, I suppose I could tell you what I know. You know the ramen shop near Belview?”

“Yeah.”

“Meet me there at seven. Don’t be late!”

Becca spared one last glance at the entrance to the academy. She hoped to God Mary was okay, for her friend’s sake, and for her own. She really did not want to be stuck with this weirdo after hours.
