Becca Embarks Alone

The sun was setting, taking with it the last hope Becca had of Jay returning. All her texts and messages had gone unanswered. At first, she worried she had said something wrong. She certainly hadn't made it easy for the boy after the kiss...and then the denial of the kiss...then the retraction of the denial. However, by now it was clear something much worse was at foot. Becca feared the worst and resigned herself to completing the task alone.

Becca dreaded going to the Academy without Jay, but there was no other way. Luckily, she felt better now than she had at the start of the week. She had been practicing everything Jay had taught her when it came to white magic. Strangely enough, it all made perfect sense to her. She was a mediocre student and a terrible test taker, but for some reason, magic was her forte.

Becca strapped on her outfit: a black t-shirt, black joggers, black combat boots, and a black beanie. These were the best camo she could ask for once the sun was down. She was blonde and pale, meaning she would stick out like a sore thumb otherwise.

Next, Becca assembled the various charms and ritual items she would need for the big finale. By the time she left her house, her backpack was filled to the brim.

Becca waited out in a nearby cafe until the last rays of sun disappeared beneath the horizon. Then it was zero hour.

Before climbing the academy fence, Becca fired off one final text to Jay.

“At this point, I’m guessing you got got, so I guess this text is more for me than you. I’m heading to the school to finish what we started. Wherever you are now, I just want you to know I really enjoyed our week together. I wish I could have had more time with you before…you know.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I really like you and I miss you. I hope wherever you are now, you’re happy.”

Becca wiped away the tears and jumped the fence.

The school had a strange atmosphere pregnant with uncanny vibes. The shadows seemed to take on a life of their own, fluttering in Becca’s peripherals. Even with the cleansing she and Jay performed, this place was still deeply haunted.

Becca reached the library and began to frantically set up the ritual. The longer she spent in the academy after dark, the more unsettled she felt. She could hear her heart pounding in her head. She needed to finish this as fast as possible.

Becca was about five minutes into setup when she heard a voice call out behind her. Immediately, she froze,

“What on Earth is this? Becca Matthew’s, what are you doing!?”

The voice belonged to Mrs. Greenwood who stood in a beam of moonlight with her arms crossed beneath her chest. The swells of her large breasts surged out of her tight, low cut top. She seemed oddly youthful. Her skin practically glowed in the pale light.

“Oh, uh, this isn’t what it looks like,” shit, it’s exactly what it looks like. I’m so screwed. I have to try and convince her. “This is a…school project! I have permission to be here. I’m…uh…setting up a…diarama!”

Mrs. Greenwood shook her head, “at eleven thirty at night? Don’t lie to me! I am marching you down to the principal’s office.”

“Ugh, fine,” Becca figured if she could distract her long enough, she could give the teacher the slip in the hallway and circle back.

“Alright, come along.”

Becca paused, suddenly feeling deeply unsettled.

“Wait a minute…the principal isn’t here. It’s the middle of the night,” she said, feeling a sudden chill in the air. “Why are you here, Mrs. Greenwood?”

Becca’s question was answered with a blow to her head that knocked her out cold.
