Be polite

“Oh, good day to you. Ma’am. Ser.” Kelly bowed respectfully. “I don’t wish to cause any trouble, but I need to speak to your Lord.”

The woman glanced towards her partner. While both wore the red and white tunic of the guard, her helmet covered her eyes, drawing one’s eyes instead to her visible lips.

“Lord Vale? What business could you possibly have with him?”

Kelly straightened, putting on his most polished smile. Luckily, his features were soft and not likely for these two to assume foul. While it had earned some teasing from other squires, it only seemed to put a lowered guard upon those he met. Gentle green eyes and his blond ponytail didn’t strike a sinister presence at all, it seemed.

“Oh, I’m sorry. It’s something very private but I swear to you, if he’ll have me, I’ll be in and out in no time at all.”

He reached to his belt, unclamping his sword.

“I’ll leave this with you if you’d like? Just to prove I’m being genuine!”

Losing his sword wasn’t ideal, but the last thing he needed was the Rosenburg guard wary and suspicious of him.

The guard glanced again over to the man who simply shrugged. The pair let their spears uncross as the woman took his sword in her other hand.

“…Very well. Go straight to the Lord’s audience hall. Don’t wander around or cause trouble, alright? The girls inside aren’t as nice as me.” She smiled, her tough shell breaking a bit.

Kelly returned the smile.

“Wonderful! Oh thank you so much. You have my word.”

With that, Kelly slipped inside the door between them.

The hall inside was decedent, soft carpets and fine flower vases filled Kelly’s sight. Further in, an indoor courtyard blossomed into pools and flowers as well as other beautiful plants. In a different direction, the Lord’s audience hall sat.
