Battle of the badge

There you are, on a green raised platform as Ebony stood on a red one looking out over the regulation battle field, floodlight lighting up the room now leaving only a few spots left shrouded in shadow. You were considering who to send out first, when you heard what sounded like metal moving into place. As you look to the side of the arena you see a huge tv screen come to life, revealing your and Ebony with six small circles just above your names, you had 5/6 in red with one clear, and Ebony had 3/6 red and the rest clear,

'your pokemon roster count?'

under you both is a camera shot of the ground and what looks like two empty bars.

"What's wrong haven't you seen a poke-stat screen before? It can check on both our pokemon in realtime and give a quick readout of there health and how many pokemon your opponent has left. I mean I know at lest 5 of the 8 gyms use one even the elite four have them. After this fight I'm definitely going to mention to Dad that the Pokemon license exam needs an update. I mean Silph co. Is currently working on a portable version last I heard, so it's not like it's not going to be important soon to know this."

See seemed flustered by your surprise at such technology none of it was ever asked about in the exams and you were pretty sure you would've remembered something like that in the textbooks you studied. She just sighed and shook her head before she straightened up, ready to fight.

"let's start this off with Nidoran!"

With a tossed ball and a flash of light a female Nidoran appeared, its light blue coloring smaller frame and pig like snout showed you the difference between a female and the more rabbit like male version even from your higher vantage point you could see to fangs on either side of the Pokemon venom dripping from them, and showing you quite clearly even though she doesn't have the horn like a male Nidoran she could still use poison sting.

"Queeny I choose you! Use string-shot to tie it down."

As your Beedrill appeared she acted on your command quickly, since it was a well-known quirk that trainer raised Beedrill and Butterfree just like their cocoon previous evolutions kept the ability to use attacks they would normally forget in the wild. as such your bug-type fired of a sticky tread of silk, Nidoran was able to move out of the way of being completely encased but had managed to step on a few errant threats sticking its front paws to the ground.

"used double-kick to break out of that stuff then use body slam on the bug."

You bit your lower lip slightly as you tried to think what to do next seeing your opponent working so quickly free itself.

"Queeny take a second to use focus-energy then when she goes in for the bodyslam counter with fury-attack."

Beedrill seem to hover in place and glow as she began to concentrate, not long afterwards you hear the ground crack as Nidoran not only broke free but used the last kick to propel herself into the air about to bellyflop directly onto your partner. As you had ordered Queeny seem to snap out of her focus and look directly up, turning slightly to the side and readying her spear like hands. She jabbed up just as Nidoran connected. They both seemed to hit the ground as one heap kicking a decent sized cloud of dust. As you waited for the dust to clear you spared a glance at the poke-stat and judging by what you saw out of the corner of your eye so did Ebony. The healthbar? You think showed Nidoran still haveing half her bar and Queeny's being almost gone. As you both looked back you saw Nidoran standing on your Beedrill and biting down hard on one of Queeny's stingers as the bug-type was straining to push her off. Finally she just seemed to push her up enough to give a good strike with her other stinger throwing the Nidoran off.

"While she's down use string-shot ag...."

"Double-kick now!"

You were surprised as Ebony called out and you realized to late you should have called for Queeny to back up first because Nidoran quickly got up turned around reared up her back legs and nailed your bug with a very powerful looking mule kick sending Queeny sailing into the air and landing on the platform next to you. You quickly bent down to check on her and saw even though she was still awake she couldn't even pull herself up.

"It's ok Queeny you did great, return."

Now back in her ball you spare a look at Nidoran and the screen, with the way she was panting you didn't even need the poke-stat, a few good hits and she'd be down, but you needed to still be careful.

"Mizu go! Use hypnosis."

As your Palwag popped out its started glowing like a strobing light, and despite Ebony's call to look away Nidoran was soon asleep.

"Now finish her off with bubble."

It took only a second for a wave of innocuous looking bubbles to float over to the sleeping Pokemon before before going off in a series of flashing lights and the loud pops throwing Nidoran across the room. Ebony scrawled at this but wordlessly returned the Pokemon before quickly letting out......a Nidoran. The male one this time and unlike Green's Royale, was a reddish purple.

"Ok Mizu do the sleep combo again hypnosis."

You had hoped to quickly take out this Nidoran like the one before with a slight hope you'd be able to pull it off again to get a lead but...

"Quick Nidoran close your eyes and use Mud-slap."

With its eyes closed the Nidoran run up close and stopped his feet digging into the ground and with a slight flick through a clump of dirt at Mizu unfortunately for you over its belly and covering up the strobing light.

"Good job you can look, now Chase it down and use poison-sting."

You smacked The handrail you were leaning on as your hopes to end this round quickly vanished.

"Mizu keep your distance and use double-slap."

What transpired for the next minute or two, wasn't exactly the most dignified of Pokemon battles to be written down in the annals of history. As Nidoran chased Mizu his head bucking forward right and left trying to nail your Poliwag, Mizu continued to run away his tail wagging back-and-forth smacking the Nidoran in the face, now this was added to by the fact they were running in a tight circle so it wasn't exactly one of the greatest cat and mouse games. Both you and Ebony seemed at a loss for how to end the stalemate when you herd Benny hill music start playing.

"Father! that is not funny!"

You looked to the left were the big chair was and Giovanni still sat there, his hand over a small consul and a smirk on his face.

"Oh on the contrary daughter, this is VERY funny."

He thankfully stop the music a few moments before Mizu ended the stalemate, jumping up and over Nidoran.

"Good job Mizu do that again and us bodyslam."

Happy to end the fight too Mizu did just that right as Nidoran turned to try and stab Mizu only for Poliwag to not be there and then slam down hard on the rabbit like pokemon bouncing off him quickly, but thankfully to both of you, Nidoran wasn't getting up.

"Dam it, return! I refuse to lose. Rhyhorn. Go!"

You couldn't help but gulp as the big stone pokemon appeared with a horn just as long as your little water-type was tall.

"it's OK Mizu you've got this he's a rock type use Water-gun."

Mizu seem to steal his nerves before letting out a heavy stream of water from the center of its swirl.

"Ryhorn use Dig escape the attack."

With a surprising amount of speed considering it's size it's slammed his head into the ground and seemed to sink in quickly escaping the water blast and leaving a huge hole in the ground.

"Um...isn't that a lot of damage to the gym floor how do you repair something like that?"

You and Mizu wear both shocked at the huge hole where the Pokemon one stood.

"Most gym leaders have a Dugtrio or two on stand-by to be used only for Gym arena maintenance such as that. What you should be more concerned with...."

Before she could even finish the ground began to rumble and Ryhorn came up out of the ground directly under Mizu striking with his horn and knocking the poor water-type around like a beach ball, knocking him out. You quickly returned Mizu as you reached for the Pokemon you hoped could win the match.

"Come on out! Sushi!"

As your Bright red Gyarados appeared hovering a few feet off the ground you could see from the shocked look on both Ebony and Giovanni's faces that they somehow skipped that little detail on your bio check.

"Holy shit is that a SHINY Gyarados? Where did you get that? And are you sure you're a starting Trainer?"

You give Sushi a big smile as it looked up to you and smiled back before turning to glare at Ryhorn that seemed frozen in fear.

"She was a very lucky find. And she was very determined. I'm not kidding she was probably the most vicious Magikarp anyone ever herd of."

"Ryhorn use Dig so long as you're underground it can't hurt you."

As it quickly dived back into one of its holes you noticed Giovanni frown as he spared his daughter a glance.

"Sushi raise a little higher from the ground don't let him get you."

The sea serpent followed your orders exactly but also began moving around the arena looking down at the ground in anticipation. After a few moments the ground began to shake and and Ryhorn raised out stabbing his horn at thin air as if he was expecting to hit something.

"Sushi! Dragon-rage now!"

Sushi let out a long stream of bright blue flame, as Ryhorn attempted to go back underground. But as soon as the attack hit, the hole was consumed by and large pillar of flame for a good few seconds, before fading away and revealing a passed out Ryhorn it's body slouched over the side of the hole.

"Yes! good job Sushi you did it."

You grin from ear to ear as you give the giant sea serpent's head a hug, before returning her. As the platforms lowered to the ground you see Ebony trying very hard to contain her anger, as a Centurion appeared from the shadows again holding a lock box (whether it was the same guy you weren't sure.) she took a deep breath as the box opened revealing an earth gym badge. She palmed it before turning to face you.

"In recognition....of your skill as a trainer...I...give you this Earth badge."

Even through her clenched teeth smile she was able to give some level of sincerity as she held out her hand, she admirably understood how important the process was even in defeat.

You hold out both hands taking the badge reverently. Your FIRST badge. And not just any badge either, it was THE badge most trainers were **** to get last. You bowed to her at this (it just seemed like the right thing to do.) before slowly placing it in your badge case a big smile forming on your face as try not to skwee.

"Now as the victor you will of course be given a 10,000₽ prize and a TM."

It is as you watch her give back the pokeballs to her dad, that you are hit with an idea.
