Chapter 289

Back to the academy?
Barring act of Goddess, a very real possibility as it turns out
As you and Clare leave Asune's house and board the waiting carriage you ponder your time there. "Asune's mother is not who I thought she would be." You say as the gardens roll past you.
Clare shrugs. "Nature verse nurture. Maybe she inherited a lot from her dad."
"Maybe, but like, her mother was -"
"A ball of sunshine to Asune's -"
"Perpetually threatening cloud." The two of you grin at each other. "I like her."
"We're yet to meet someone you don't like." Clare answered then after a moment added, "well we're yet to meet someone you can't bone yourself into liking."
You laugh and think about it. "No there was one guy. At my debutante ball I met my first, for this world bully."
"And I'm sure you had truly strong feelings about him." Clare looking out the window at the people being passed by. "Hey so, about your mother."
"What about her?" You aren't sure where this had come from, when you'd spoken to Clare in your dream, meeting, things she'd seemed to have settled the matter, given how lightly it was touched on.
"How accurate would you say her predictions were."
"She was literally involved in conversations as they were happened. That is the simplest way I can put it." Your hand wondered to the ring absently handing from around your neck.
"And she didn't leave any advice on, say, who my sister picked as her champion, or when they would be easiest to defeat." Clare watched your fingers as you roll the ring around on it's string.
"No, she left a note saying in effect I should live in the moment not look for notes telling me what to do."
"But she made sure Thetia, ow, I mean Eve, merged with Delilah. That spell is a lot more impressive than I gave them credit for."
"Yeah."
"Oh man," Clare sounded really bummed all of a sudden and swapped to sit behind the driver. She banged on the wall a few times to get his attention. "Hey we need to go to the royal library." There was a muffled agreement and she jumped back to sit next to you. Seeing your quizzical expression she sigh, "I hate studying."
"Not answering the expression." You say in reply.
"I need to find out who Th - Eve was. As I said forcing someone to become a wraith is way too fucked up for it to have happened without note. Her popping up after you left and when me and my sister started approaching you to be champion is just too well timed. If your mother could predict the future as accurately as you say than she might not have been the only one."
"And whoever made Eve might have had access to that foresight when they made her tomb."
"Yeah. Also I've spent a week with Eve and honestly I'm starting to think she's planning on conquering some shit."
"What?"
"She's asked about how nobility works, how the royals act, how popular they are. She studies everyone and everything very closely. Think about it. When you got to the capital what was she like?"
You think about it and, "Well, yeah I guess but Delilah isn't like that."
"I know, but in case you haven't noticed Eve is pretty charismatic. I don't think she's anything bad don't get me wrong. But when the other champions start arriving I'd be a lot more comfortable knowing Eve isn't going to try and get their loyalty to her and not to you."
"I think you're being paranoid." You say. The carriage slows as it arrives at the royal library. You'd never been her and seeing it person. "But I am all for a trip to the library." You say as a smile spreads on your face. It's been ages since you'd read a book, the last time was when you'd read to Edin in bed.
"Nerd." Clare said sticking her tongue out at she climbed out of the carriage. You joined her and examined the building. The first thing you noted was that it was made of wood, a lot of wood.
"That seems unsafe." You comment as the two of you walk to the surprising humble doors. The library itself isn't on a hill but does face one, not the one holding the royal palace however. You look up at the tree covered top, you don't know who or what is up there, maybe the royal baths.
"Just don't start any fires." Clare said as she pushed the doors open. Inside was a small foyer with a woman and a desk.
"How can I help?" The woman asked Clare. She was old and you got the impression her question should be interpreted as 'fuck off'.
"I need to review the genealogy records for the last few centuries." Clare said bluntly, pulling herself up to her full height to regard the woman. Her aura shifted into one of absolute confidence. It was so absolute you caught yourself starting to take a step to find the records yourself.
The women stood up. "Of course my Lady." She hurried to a door and opened it. Clare and you walked towards it when the women hesitated. "Men aren't allowed in the library without royal decree." Her objection died under the slowly turned gaze of Clare. "Sorry my Lady. P-please follow me." Despite her age she scurried through the door with impressive agility.
Clare smirked at you. "It's all in the slow head turn, no one can stand a slow head turn." She practically skipped after the women with you behind. Through the door was not a library, it was just a corridor will lots of other doors leading away from it. You were so far underwhelmed Edin had made it sound a lot more impressive in his letters.
"What genealogy are you seeking my Lady. We have all of the noble houses, several from neighboring kingdoms and a few dating back to the ancient queens who's reins died out." The woman said as she opened a door and lead you inside. Inside were, finally, books, neatly stacked in rows and columns. The woman walked down them as you read the spins visible. There all had a name and two years on them, the genealogy of each house for one hundred years. The sheer number of them befuddled you, you did not think there were that many nobles in the kingdom. "Where would you like to begin?" The woman asked coming to a halt by a table.
"Older." Clare said reading the years around her. She looked at you for more detail.
"Five hundred years or so older. And not of any family that is in high standing." Your mother was unknown by your father and given the curse on Eve's blood line they must have fell from some prominence.
"Very well." The woman turned on her heel and walked further down until she reached the near end of the row. She pointed out two column's. "These are from the period and feature houses that no longer exist." She looked at the two of you again. "Will you be long?"
"As long as it takes." Clare said pulling out a book and taking it to the table, opening it and sitting down to start looking for Thetia.
The woman nodded and started walking towards the exit when you stopped her. "Have you ever seen the name," You hesitate as a memory enters your mind. Eve telling you to be careful with the name Thetia. You don't think she is anything nefarious, but Clare's the Goddess here and maybe you shouldn't be poking things too much, Eve's appearance is a little more than just a coincidence. "Never mind."
The woman nods and leaves you and Clare alone. "Grab a book champion." Clare said with a faint smile.
"And I thought you would just be about sex twenty-four seven."
"Oh good idea." She stands up and points at her chair. "Pants off and sit. Reckon I get a load a book." She looked at the columns the woman had pointed out. "Think I can look pretty pregnant by the time we're done." She had a smirk but you also knew she was serious.
"You do still have one inside you." You point out grabbing a book for yourself, then pulling your pants down and siting behind Clare. "You've really corrupted me you know that." You say with mirth as she looks over her shoulder at you.
"Hey I'm the innocent, pure Goddess. You're the one who's corrupted me with that fat dick of yours." She said playfully.
"I thought your sister was the innocent pure one." You say as she grips your length and strokes you to full hardness.
"No, she's the repressed deviant. I'm totally innocent." She said as she sat on your lap letting your cock sink inside her pussy. "Fuck that dick is nice."
"Innocent huh?" You whisper in her ear.
"Innocently riding her champion while we find out if Eve is going to try and kill everyone." Clare says back.
"She's not." You defend rolling your eyes. "Lean forwards." You open the book on Clare's back as she leans to study hers lifting and lowering her hips lazily on your lap.
"I hope so too."
