Barbara Answers Nehme
"I-wow! I-I mean, my name is Barbara Helens." Barbara blurted out as she couldn’t take her eyes off of the mystical beauty before her.
"Hmmm~ Madame Barbara." Nehme said with a grin. "I exist to serve and satisfy your will. What is it you desire?" Nehme continued to float and loom over the housewife, almost studying her with just her gaze alone.
"So much!" Barbara instinctively answered before shaking her head. "Wait! W-what about the rules!?"
"What rules?" Nehme asked if a bemused chuckle.
"You know, the rules." Barbara reiterated with a flourishing gesture. "The classic three rules. No making anyone fall in love with you, only three wishes, and you can't bring back the dead."
A flash of understanding crackled across Nehme's face before she let out a belly-shaking laugh. "Oh~ hahahaha no, no, nooo~" She waved her hand about, dismissing Barbara's concerns. "The first two are complete and total nonsense! They were definitely just made up by unimaginative and lazy Djinn centuries ago to avoid satisfying their master's will."
"B-but the third." Barbara pressed, and Nehme nodded.
"What has died can never be returned." Nehme answered solemnly. "I can do a great many things. But I cannot steal a soul from the hereafter and return it to the Mortal World."
Barbara was silent for a moment. "How do I wish for something?"
"You must simply desire it." Nehme responded.
"Okay so..." Barbara traced her thumb in a circle across the lamp, pulling a cooing moan from Nehme. "I wish for a million dollars, right here and now." Only for nothing to happen nor any single bill to appear before her. "What-why!?" She asked as she looked at Nehme.
"Mistress you may have rubbed my lamp, said the words, but you didn't truly desire having a million dollars in cash." Nehme informed her mistress. "Wishing only works if you genuinely, deeply, truly yearn and desire something with all of your being." The Genie said as she moved closer to Barbara. "So, all you must do is imagine the one thing in this world you want more than anything else. Then rub my lamp, say the words and I will make your will into reality."
Barbara's eyes slowly fluttered closed as she thought as she focused all of her willpower on that one, singular question. What do I want more than anything? The question rattled inside her mind for several seconds before the answer came to her. With a confident look in her eyes, Barbara takes a deep breath, rubs Nehme's lamp and makes her first true wish.
What does Barbara wish for?
