Back to work.

The next day you had work, much like every other weekday. It was the same mind-numbing nonsense, but you appreciated the pay. Today kept you quite busy. You worked at your desk for the most part and barely had a lunch break before you needed to get back to work again. You spoke briefly with who you needed to, but otherwise it wasn't very eventful. You hadn't even seen Nate or Stan.

You got home later that night, work having kept you back late. Emily was already home. She was folding clothes in front of the television. You sat next to her and helped.

"How was your day?" She asked the usual question.

"Very boring." You told the truth.

"A good day then." She smiled at you.

"I suppose. I wish it were a little more exciting though." You said glumly.

"Well, I bet your workmates are pretty mad at you for uninviting them huh? That must be pretty exciting." She asked, almost teasingly... Despite her being the one who made you uninvite them in the first place.

You gave her an icy look. "Probably. They really did want to come you know? Hell, Stan's even convinced Tom to take him as his plus one." You said with a small laugh.

"Stan...? But you uninvited him! Why is he coming!?" Emily asked sternly. You weren't sure why she was getting so fired up.

"Like I said, he's coming as Tom's plus one. His wife can't make it so he's taking Stan instead. Why does it matter?" You asked with a frown.

"Because we uninvited him! It wouldn't be fair to any of your other workmates now." She ranted angrily.

"You're going to have to tell him that he can't come." She said flatly.

You frowned at that. She wasn't acting or thinking rationally. It was unlike her to be like this, and you were increasingly suspicious. You remembered her phone call with Wendy and wondered if the two had any history.
