What's next?

Back to the Beginning

Chapter 568 by XarHD XarHD

Nobody was in a hurry to be the one who spoke first. The lounge had gone quiet the plain way, not the held-breath kind. Erin and Claire's footsteps had long faded down the hall, the door shut behind the last of them. Nothing was left in the room now but the one low lamp, the couch, and the three of them settled loosely across it. Andy sat in the middle. One of Laura’s bodies was tucked against each side of him, one cheek against his shoulder and the other resting near his collarbone.

Both of them were still and quiet in a way that had nothing tense in it — just tired, finally, in the good sense of the word. Emi had folded herself into the space against the nearer Laura, her head against that body’s neck. Two of her six arms wrapped loosely around both of them at once; the other four rested still in her lap — as close as any part of her ever came to actual stillness. Outside, faint through the windows, the sea kept its own patient rhythm, in and out, indifferent to any of them.

It was Laura who broke the quiet first, and her voice came out smaller than she seemed to want it to. “They planned it.” A beat. “All of them.”

Andy went still.

“Erin and Claire didn't just decide to give us the room tonight,” she said, both her voices thinning toward one as the words came, quieter with every sentence rather than louder. “None of them did. They must have talked about it — at the bonfire, she said, all of them agreeing at once not to say a word to me about it. They knew exactly what they were doing when they walked out of here and left the three of us alone.” She stopped. Started again. “They know what tomorrow is. What it could still—” The sentence didn't finish. She didn't need it to.

Andy felt the words land somewhere under his ribs before he had anything ready to say back. His arm tightened around her on instinct, both bodies of her at once, and he held her like that for a long moment, his jaw set against the top of her head, before he trusted his own voice enough to use it. When he finally spoke, whatever hedge usually lived in it had gone missing entirely.

“I know,” he said. Plain. Unhedged. “And I'm not letting it.”

“That's not—” Laura started, and cut herself off before she could finish however that sentence was going to land.

Emi lifted her head from the nearer Laura’s shoulder. Her gaze cut past both of them, landing on Laura with a steadiness that left no room for doubt. “It’s not surrender,” she said. “Not even close.” A beat of quiet, then: “Every one of us believes you'll make it through tomorrow. Every single person who walked out of here tonight believes it—believes in him. In you.” She didn’t blink. “This wasn’t a goodbye. It was an offering. They gave you this room, this night, because they understand what you are to him. Because they love you.”

Laura turned her face first into Andy’s shoulder, then Emi’s temple—a double anchor. Her exhale trembled at the edges. “Okay,” she said, both voices knitting back together, firmer now. “Okay.” She said it once more, under her breath, the way she used to when gathering the scattered pieces of herself. Then she let the silence hold her—held in turn by Andy on one side, Emi on the other—and this time, the quiet felt less like absence and more like shelter.

It was Emi who stirred first out of it, tipping her head back far enough to look up at Andy properly. “You know this is going back to the beginning,” she said, and something in her voice had gone softer, almost wondering, “since before any of this. Before the Hotel. Before the rest of them. Just the three of us, alone, with nobody else in the room.”

Andy turned that over for a second before he answered, feeling the truth of it settle somewhere warm. “Since we were kids,” he said. “Just us three.”

Emi smiled at that, small and entirely real, the kind of smile that reached all the way up into her eyes, and echoed it back to him. “Three kids and a bad idea.” The Laura nearer her found Emi's hand without looking for it, fingers lacing through hers without any hesitation, long practice in the gesture. “Glad it worked out to be tonight,” that Laura said, quiet. “Of every night it could have been.”

“Yeah,” Andy said, low, and pulled both of them a fraction closer — one arm around each side of him, Emi folded into the middle of it. Both of Laura’s heads tipped in toward his chest at the same instant, like she’d planned it. Nobody said anything else for a while after that. The lamp burned on, steady and low. The sea kept its rhythm outside the windows, and none of them were in any hurry to be anywhere but exactly where they were.

Andy broke the quiet eventually, his voice so low it barely stirred the air. “Should we move this somewhere more comfortable?”

Laura was on her feet before he'd finished the sentence, pulling him and Emi up after them by the hand, already moving before any of them had properly decided to. They crossed the lounge together, unhurried but not slow either. Somewhere in the short walk down the hallway, both of Laura reached back and found the clasps of each dress, undoing them quick and practiced, letting the fabric loosen at her shoulders. Emi laughed, low, at the sight of it. She let herself be tugged along easily between Laura and Andy, her hands finding an arm here, a waist there, never quite still even now.

The door clicked shut behind them, a sound that seemed to swallow all other noise in the room for a heartbeat. They stood frozen in the new quiet. Then Andy exhaled, a release of tension he hadn’t realized he’d been carrying, and closed his eyes. The summoning of his second form came as naturally now as breathing—a thought given substance, no more remarkable than lifting a hand. When he opened his eyes again, there were two of him standing shoulder to shoulder, mirror images down to the faint wrinkle in their shirts.

Emi’s gaze danced between them, her delight palpable. “Even doubled,” she observed, “you’re still outnumbered. Three to two.”

“I like those odds,” both of Andy said in perfect unison, his voices overlapping into a single statement that drew a bright, unguarded laugh from Emi. Both of Laura joined in, already moving—hands reaching, bodies turning—drawing one Andy, then the other, then Emi toward the waiting bed with the ease of long practice.

One Andy bent to meet the mouth of Laura’s nearest body. The other Andy moved behind Emi, his hands settling at her waist before drifting upward, his lips finding the delicate curve of her ear. Emi reached back without looking, her fingers finding and lacing through the second Laura’s hand, pulling her into their circle rather than leaving her at its periphery. Two of Andy, two of Laura, one Emi—five bodies folding into one interconnected constellation across the bedsheets, boundaries dissolving into touch.

The kissing itself stayed paired the way it always had, between the three of them — an Andy with both of Laura, an Andy with Emi. The closeness of Laura and Emi ran on an entirely separate current, warm and unhurried and complete in its own right: a hand found and held without looking, a forehead leaned briefly against a shoulder. Nothing more than that ever needed to be asked of it.

Both of Laura moved in unison, two sets of hands finding two different sets of shoulders at nearly the same instant. One of her turned her face toward the nearest Andy's ear and asked him, low, for something meant for no one else in the room to hear. He obliged without making her ask a second time, his hand finding exactly where she'd wanted it.

Partway through, Emi pulled back just far enough to look between both of Andy and both of Laura at once, her voice steadying itself before the words actually came, the way it always did right before she said something she meant. “Whatever happens tomorrow,” she said, “we stick together. No matter what.”

Both Andys pulled her closer and held her tighter for it without a beat of hesitation. Both of Laura closed in from either side at the same instant, arms winding around Emi and around each other and around him, until there was no space left between any of them.

Time slid loosely by for a while after that, unhurried, nobody keeping any particular track of it, and then the room itself started to change around them, so gradually that none of them could have said exactly when it began. The sound of the sea through the windows stretched thin and slow, each wave taking longer to arrive than the one before it had, until the rhythm of it felt less like the ocean and more like something breathing very slowly in its sleep.

The light from the one lamp they'd left burning seemed to hang in the air a beat past when it should have moved on, as though the room itself had grown reluctant to let any single moment go. All three of them felt it before any of them said so — a settling, a loosening, as though the whole night had exhaled at once and decided not to draw the next breath in a hurry.

Andy recognized it before he could have named it. His pulse didn't quicken so much as it slowed to match everything else, settling into a rhythm that had nothing urgent left in it. He'd felt this exact loosening before, more than once, always with her, and it had never once stopped feeling like something being given to him rather than something merely happening around him.

It was Laura who noticed it first and said so out loud, breathless, pulling back just far enough to look between the two of them, her eyes a little wide. “Is it — “ She stopped, tried again, one hand coming up to press flat against Andy's chest as though she could check the room's pulse through his. “Has it already started?”

Emi answered her between kisses, unhurried, as though the question itself were just one more part of what was slowing down along with everything else. “It has.” A pause, her mouth against Laura's jaw, her voice gone soft and entirely certain. “This is exactly what it's always like. An hour turning into what feels like a whole day — and it only belongs to the three of us. Nothing outside these walls moves any different. Just us, in here. For however long we want it to.”

Whatever measure of an hour usually meant stopped applying after that. The candlelight held its shape without seeming to burn down. The sound of the sea thinned further still, until it was less a sound than a memory of one, present at the edges of hearing rather than in the middle of it. The room itself seemed to have grown warmer, the air a little sweeter than it had any real reason to be. None of them stopped to wonder at it. It was simply how the room felt now, the way a held breath feels different from an ordinary one.

With the night stretched open ahead of them, nobody in any hurry at all, the three of them settled into it properly. One form of closeness eased into another. Nothing was chased, nothing rushed — the room’s own slowed time gave every touch as long as it wanted to last, and then longer still. One Andy’s hand found the curve of a Laura’s hip and stayed there, unhurried, tracing the familiar dip of her waist before slipping lower to press his palm flat against the warm skin just above her thigh.

The other Andy found Emi’s mouth again and didn’t let it go for a long, unmeasured while, his tongue moving slow against hers until her breath hitched softly against his cheek. Laura’s fingers traced slow lines along whichever skin was nearest — sometimes his stomach, sometimes the sensitive hollow behind Emi’s knee where she’d always been ticklish, never quite deciding to stop at either.

Emi’s six hands found their own rhythm across her partners at once: two cupping the breasts of one of Laura’s bodies, thumbs brushing over nipples already hardening; two working open the button of one Andy’s jeans; the last pair simply resting, open, against whoever happened to be closest, fingers splayed wide to feel the heat rising through their skin. Nothing about it was hurried. Nothing needed finishing before it could be enjoyed.

Somewhere in the middle of it Andy lost track of which Laura's hand was laced through his and which one had her mouth pressed soft against his shoulder, and discovered the deliciousness of not knowing. Emi laughed once, low and unhurried, at something none of the others had said aloud, and neither Andy nor Laura asked what — some things, this deep into a night like this one, didn't need explaining to be shared.

The configuration shifted again, unhurried, nobody deciding it out loud. The Laura who'd had her mouth against his shoulder eased back just far enough to watch, her hand still resting light against his chest, while the other pressed closer, her breath catching soft and even against his ear each time he moved. Emi's fingers found the small of that Laura's back at the same moment two more of her hands found Andy's — the second Andy's — jaw, tilting his face up toward hers with no more urgency than the rest of the room allowed. He kissed her slow, unhurried, and felt rather than heard the small sound she made against his mouth. When she finally drew back it was only to look at all of them at once, her eyes soft in the candlelight, before she leaned in and started again.

Nobody hurried toward anything. Every time one of them seemed to be building toward something, the room's own slowed time let it build a while longer instead, drawn out past the point any of them would ordinarily have let it go, and none of them minded the wait. A Laura's breath caught and held, and held, and Andy felt the answering echo of it in the second Laura beside him, both of her chasing the same slow rise at once even with her attention split two ways. When it finally broke over her, it broke over both of her together, her fingers tightening hard in whatever they'd found to hold onto. For a moment neither Andy nor Emi moved. They let her come back down in her own time before anyone asked anything more of her.

The three of them let themselves sink the rest of the way into the private hours Emi had given them, closed off now from everything waiting outside the Suite's walls until morning came looking for them again.

Time kept slipping strangely around them, far more of it seeming to pass than actually did.

Emi broke the stillness first, her fingers curling with deliberate intent around the nearest Andy’s wrist, pulling him toward her with a slow, possessive drag that left no question of her intentions. The other Andy remained untouched for the moment, a silent invitation hanging between the three of them—an invitation Laura’ s two bodies accepted without hesitation. She moved as one, her limbs unfolding around him in perfect, wordless sync, her familiarity with this dance so absolute that no direction was needed. One Laura’ s breath hitched as her fingers found the hem of his shirt, peeling it upward with practiced ease, while the other traced the line of his spine, her touch lingering just long enough to make him shiver.

Laura’s mind found her Consent Dial before she’d even consciously thought to reach for it, the way a pianist’s hands find a chord after years of muscle memory. She tweaked it, and the Bond of Marriage cut out over the next few minutes—like muting a radio, or drawing a thick velvet curtain between acts of a play. The echo that had been humming between her and Emi, the one that let both of Laura feel every drop of sensation exchanged on Emi’s side, went silent. What replaced it was a sudden, almost echoing privacy: Laura’s two bodies, their need and hunger no longer crosswired to Emi, were now attuned only to the physical man between them. Andy’s warmth, Andy’s motion, Andy’s pulse—no one else’s pleasure or perception leaking in from the outside.

Emi and Andy, Laura and Andy, and the second body pressing up behind the first so close their hair tangled at the shoulders. The air felt different in a way that only made sense in this room on this island: less like the prelude to a storm and more like the lazy churn of a wave after it’s already crested.

One of Laura’s bodies tilted Andy’s face toward her with a light touch, her thumb settling at the hinge of his jaw, while the other body swept both arms around his waist, fingers fanning out to claim as much of his back as she could reach. Andy, caught between the two of her, didn’t even try to decide which to respond to first. He breathed in, and let whatever happened next happen with no more resistance than a leaf in a slow, swirling current.

She claimed his mouth, her lips parted and soft, tasting of the tangerine lip balm she’d found in the suite’s bathroom. Her tongue moved slow, steady, not so much urgent as exploratory—she wanted to know if he tasted different now, if this version of Andy was more him than the last or less, if she could find the nervous, eager boy she remembered inside the man. She found him, easily. He met her kiss with a shyer energy than she expected, letting her take the lead like he always had, letting her press closer until her chest flattened against his, her whole upper body vibrating with the held-in hum of wanting more.

Her other body, meanwhile, busied herself along his shoulders and neck, her hands mapping the planes of muscle and bone like she was taking inventory for insurance. Her mouth lingered on the space just below his ear—always his weakest point—and she bit him, gently, then soothed the spot with her tongue in a way that made him shudder and slip an arm around her waist in reflex. She smiled into his skin, feeling the pulse race beneath it.

Emi, for her part, didn’t seem ready to share her Andy with anyone else yet. She kept her own hands on him after she took off his shirt, three pairs working in elegant rotation: the first on his shoulders, fingers kneading expertly, rolling out tension the way she had done for him a thousand times before. The second pair drifted lower, fingertips trailing the midline of his chest, her nails raking lightly over his nipples (he gasped, every time, as if surprised) before skating down to his hips and pausing, waiting for further invitation. The last two hands cradled his face, guiding him gently toward her own mouth. Emi’s kiss was all patience, a slow and thorough study as she traced the outline of his lips with her tongue, then pulled away just far enough to watch what he did with the space she left behind.

Her kiss was slow, deep, her tongue sliding against his with a languid rhythm that made it clear she had no intention of rushing. He surrendered to it, his own hands coming up to tangle in her hair, his body relaxing into the pillows as she took control. She explored him with a thoroughness that left no inch of him untouched, her fingers memorizing the shape of him, the way his breath hitched when she grazed a particularly sensitive spot, the way his hips twitched when she finally—finally—let her hands drift lower, her touch featherlight over the straining fabric of his pants.

The whole thing was less a scramble for territory and more some intricate game that all three had played before, each of them waiting to see which touch would land first, which mouth would be claimed, which hand would linger and which would wander. Andy’s own hands, outnumbered and clearly outmaneuvered, did their best to keep pace. He found one of Emi’s wrists and followed the line of her arm back to her shoulder, squeezing once and then letting go as if to say, “I don’t need to hold you to keep you close.” With Laura, he was greedier: his hands dug into her lower back and pulled her flush against him, and when she made a small, surprised noise into his mouth, he smiled and pressed his mouth harder to hers, as though he could drink the sound directly from her.

For a long, suspended moment, this was all there was—three people, fourteen hands, an unhurried dance of mouths and skin and the gentle, insistent push and pull of bodies too familiar with each other to trip over awkwardness anymore. No one rushed. No one tried to get anywhere other than exactly where they were.

Emi nipped his lower lip, then moved lower, trailing kisses along the angle of his jaw and down the slope of his neck. She found the hollow at the base of his throat and claimed it, biting gently until she left a faint, wet crescent. Andy tried to say something—maybe a protest, maybe a moan, maybe just their names—but all that came out was a ragged exhale and a shudder that ran through both of them at once.

Beside them, Laura’s two bodies watched, their own touches gentling into something almost reverent. One of them stretched out along the edge of the bed, her chin propped on her fist as she studied the way Emi’s hands moved over Andy’s skin, the way his body arched into her touch. The other curled closer, her fingers tracing idle patterns against his shoulder, her breath warm against his skin as she leaned in, her lips brushing the shell of his ear. “You’re beautiful like this,” she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper, her words meant only for him.

Emi, for her part, watched both of Laura with a competitive, fascinated smile. She didn’t let up her own campaign, but instead redirected her six hands to a full-court press: two on Andy’s hips, two on his chest, two on his face, every touch deliberate and coordinated. She leaned in, caught his mouth in hers, and this time let him take the lead. He did, hungrily, his tongue searching hers, his hands clutching her bare sides as though she might float off otherwise. There was a neediness to the way he touched her this time, a frantic edge that seemed to surprise even him. Emi met it, matched it, then gently defused it by slowing the kiss, teasing him with a retreat and then rewarding him for patience with a return. It became a rhythm, a negotiation, a lesson she was teaching him every time their mouths met.

Meanwhile, Laura’s two bodies had found a kind of rhythm of their own, alternating who kissed and who touched, who pressed in and who held back. They made a game of switching places, one moving down Andy’s body while the other covered whatever skin he’d tried to defend with his hands, then switching back, so that he was never sure which of them he was responding to at any given moment. When she finally peeled his shirt all the way off, she made a quiet, appreciative noise and ran her palm flat over the warm skin of his chest, then ducked down to run her tongue over his sternum, leaving a glistening line. Her other self followed suit, licking a matching line just below his ribs, and the two of them grinned at him over the topography of his torso, delighted by their own symmetry.

Andy, for his part, had lost all sense of who was meant to be in charge. He let the current take him, let himself be handled and folded and kissed and pressed until he didn’t know where his body ended and theirs began. He loved it. He loved the confusion of hands and mouths, the way he could feel one Laura’s breath warm against his shoulder while the other’s hair brushed his thigh, the way Emi’s six hands could make him feel caged and safe at the same time. It was overwhelming, in the best possible way—each new touch felt like it was happening for the very first time, even after a thousand other touches had come before it.

Somewhere in the gentle chaos, a Laura’s hand found the buckle of his belt and paused, seeking permission with a glance. Andy nodded, and she undid it in one smooth motion, her hands deft and practiced. She let the waistband snap back against his skin and grinned, pleased at the small, surprised sound he made. The other Laura, in the meantime, had been working at the buttons of his jeans, her fingers careful and unhurried, as though savoring the process more than the result.

She caught the tab of his zipper between two fingers and pulled slow, a deliberate show, like she knew he was watching even more than he was feeling. The jeans parted with a sound that felt louder than it was, the rush of air against his skin raising goosebumps even before her touch returned. She hooked her thumb in the waistband and worked it down, baring him inch by careful inch, the motion unhurried, teasing, a performance meant for both of her and for him at once.

The other Laura moved with the motion, trailing her mouth lower, her breath warm along the path she traced. She brushed her lips over his exposed hipbone, then nipped softly at the skin just above the elastic of his boxers. The friction of cotton on skin was a live wire; every point of contact was suddenly magnified, and Andy found himself wanting to laugh, or groan, or possibly both. The first Laura pressed her chest against his, her pulse frantic and wild under her skin, and Andy felt a deep, twisting ache in his own body that had nothing to do with urgency and everything to do with being wanted, this way, by both of her at once.

Emi, meanwhile, had shifted, all six hands in play now. She took off his jeans and pressed him back against the pillows, her touch gentle but absolute, and straddled his hips with a confidence so seamless it left no room for question. She watched both of Laura, her smile gone soft and hungry, then bent and kissed Andy, slow and wet, her tongue exploring his mouth with the same patient curiosity she’d used everywhere else. She tasted like tea and citrus, and when she broke the kiss she lingered an inch away, her breath hot against his lips.

“You’re not supposed to be the one getting overwhelmed,” she teased, low enough he barely caught it.

He didn’t have words ready. He just kissed her again, letting her take what she wanted, letting both of Laura claim whatever of him was left.

At some point, the boxers were gone, peeled away by a conspiracy of hands that left him bare and exposed to all three of them. Laura’s two bodies bracketed him, one hand from each tracing up his thighs, their touches so alike he couldn’t say which belonged to which. One Laura wrapped a hand around his cock, her grip strong but feather-light, stroking him with a rhythm that matched nothing but her own breath. The other watched, her face inches away, her breath warm against the head of his cock, but she didn’t move to taste him yet; she just watched, eyes wide, lips parted in a half-smile that dared him to look away.

Emi shifted her hips, grinding down against him, the thin fabric of her panties soaking through onto his skin. She moved slow, unhurried, her hands never stopping their exploration even as her body pressed in closer. She leaned back, arching, and with a practiced flick of her wrists, she untied her own dress at the neck, letting it spill open to bare her chest. Two of her hands cupped her breasts; the other four never left Andy’s body, touching and mapping and holding.

For a long stretch, time went viscous. Every new sensation landed with the force of a first time: the drag of Emi’s nipple against his tongue, the feel of Laura’s four hands stroking him in a rhythm that sped and slowed by silent consensus, the way Emi’s hips rolled against his, the wet heat of her soaking through and making a mess of both of them. Andy lost any sense of choreography, letting the hands and mouths and skin blend until he wasn’t sure who was doing what, only that he wanted more of all of it.

One of Laura’s bodies finally broke the standoff, lowering herself to take him in her mouth. She was gentle at first, her lips barely brushing the tip, tongue flicking around the crown in a spiral that made him gasp. Her other self, not to be left behind, pressed in closer from above, kissing his mouth as she worked, her own hand stroking what her other send’s mouth couldn’t reach. Andy couldn’t help it, he groaned into her kiss, feeling every vibration echo up and down his body.

Emi’s hands gentled, slowing him down when his hips tried to buck up into Laura’s mouth. She was in no hurry at all. Two hands rested on his chest, grounding him; two more brushed through his hair, soothing; the last two splayed across his thighs, applying just enough pressure to keep him from moving. She watched Laura’s mouth take him in, then glanced down and met Andy’s eyes with a look of pure, unmasked delight.

“You have the best view in the world right now,” she said, her voice gone husky, and it was true: the sight of Laura’s two bodies—one with her mouth full of him, the other with her lips pressed to his own—was something he would never forget.

He tried to speak, but Emi kissed him into silence. Her tongue was soft, slow, coaxing every thought out of his head until the only thing left was the feel of her and the weight of Laura’s mouth.

Laura’s technique was different this time, more sure, more thorough. She pressed her lips down the shaft slowly, drawing him in until he felt the edge of her throat resist, then pulled back and flicked her tongue over the head with the same teasing patience she’d always used to break him down. The other Laura kept her hand moving, but now she watched Emi, waiting for some unspoken signal. When Emi nodded, the hand let go, and the mouth let him slip free, both of Laura shifting up at once, kissing him in tandem, her lips moving against his and against each other’s cheeks, never quite touching but always in perfect sync.

Emi took the opening, shifting her hips forward, straddling his lap.

Emi’s thighs settled over his, and she reached for him, guiding him into her with a precision that made it clear she’d thought about this more than a few times. Andy gripped her hips, slow, not yet thrusting, just letting the heat and wetness of her surround him. He was burning with hunter after Laura's teasing. Emi shivered, visibly, and her mouth went slack for a second, her hands tightening on his chest like she was bracing herself against a sudden current.

She was so tight, Andy almost lost it at the first press inside her, the friction of it compounded by the fact that Laura’s two bodies were still a tangle of limbs around him, hands and mouth everywhere, one of them licking the sweat from his neck while the other kissed his throat hard enough to leave a mark. He hung on by a thread, and for a moment he forgot how to do anything but hold on.

Emi didn’t. She started to ride him, setting a slow, delicious rhythm, her hands draped over him in a net of sensation. She didn’t bounce or grind—she rode him like a wave, hips rolling, her body flexing around him in a way that made Andy want to shout. He almost did, and Emi laughed, low and pleased at herself, and leaned down to kiss him.

The kiss was different now, not exploratory but consuming—she tasted of herself, sweet and astringent, and Andy realized she’d left herself wide open, letting him feel every tremor in her body as she moved. He responded the way he always did: with surrender. Emi’s hands were everywhere at once, tugging at his hair, holding his jaw, brushing over his nipples, and all the while her hips never lost their rhythm.

He glanced to the side and saw that Laura’s two bodies were watching, her faces flushed and hungry, but even more than that—happy, in a way he hadn’t seen in her in a long time. One of her leaned in, kissed his cheek, and whispered, “Don’t hold back.” The other caught his hand, squeezed it hard, and guided it to her own body, over her breast, and when he grazed her nipple she gasped, loud enough to make Emi smirk.

The two of her turned on the Andy they had claimed, a coordinated attack, and before he could even track what was happening, they had him pinned to the mattress, one Laura holding his wrists above his head while the other straddled his hips and ground down, her ass pressing hard into his lap. He could feel her heat, and when he tried to buck up, the other Laura just tightened her grip and grinned.

They took turns licking from his jawline to his navel, sometimes both at once, their tongues moving in perfect opposition. The sensation doubled, and in the strange, slow time of this room, it seemed to last forever.

The Andy with Emi let himself go, finally, matching her with deep, rolling thrusts. The sound of skin on skin, the wet noise of Emi’s body, the taste of her sweat and the smell of her hair—it was all too much, and he wanted more of it, endlessly. Emi’s breath caught in her throat, and she made a little wailing sound, her fingers digging into his ribs. She came, not quietly, her body shuddering around him, and Andy almost followed her, barely able to hold back.

But Emi didn’t let him finish yet. She slowed her hips, leaning back to let both of Laura see, and said, “Not yet. Let her have you too.” She pulled off him, gliding up to kneel above his chest, her hands still touching him everywhere, and watched as Laura descended on him.

One Laura took him in her mouth, her lips wet and hot, her tongue working him with a slow greed. The other Laura straddled his face, her knees framing his head, and lowered herself until he could taste her. She was soaked through, and Andy moaned into her, feeling the vibration echo down his body into the other Laura’s mouth.

He licked her, slow at first, remembering everything she’d ever told him about what she liked. The angle was awkward but Laura didn’t care, she ground against his mouth, her hands in his hair, and when he grazed her clit with his teeth she cried out, her whole body tightening. The other Laura, not to be outdone, bobbed her head faster, one hand stroking the base of his cock, the other reaching back to finger herself, her juices dripping down onto his thigh.

Emi watched all this, her six arms moving in a blur, sometimes touching herself, sometimes reaching to stroke Andy’s hair or Laura’s back, sometimes just holding her own breasts as she watched, clearly getting off on the sight itself. She looked like a queen, a goddess, a clever animal who had orchestrated this entire tableau for her own delight and was now just letting it play out.

The Laura on Andy’s mouth came first, her thighs clamping down around his head, her hips jerking in quick, involuntary pulses. She shuddered and then slumped forward, her body spent and shaking. The other Laura moaned in pleasure but didn’t slow down, her mouth working him harder, and Andy felt the telltale heat building in his other body’s gut, the warning of orgasm so intense it almost scared him.

He tried to warn her, but Laura just moaned in response, hollowing her cheeks and swallowing him deeper. He came in her mouth, hard, and she drank it down, every last drop, her hands stroking him through the aftershocks until he couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think.

Emi pushed herself up on two arms, her body arching over his like a cat stretching in the sun, her gaze flicking between Laura’s two bodies, laughing, bright and unguarded.

“I've had my turn,” she said. “You can have yours now.”

“Very generous of you.” Laura reached over and poked her in the side, grinning. “Did you actually time yourself?”

“I absolutely did.” Emi didn't so much as blink. “And I'm not telling you by how much.”

“That's not fair.”

“It's extremely fair. You didn't ask before I started, so you don't get a number now.”

Andy, still catching his breath against the other Laura's collarbone, lifted his head just far enough to get a word in. “So who's timing mine?”

Both of Laura turned on him at once and swatted him, one from each side, which only made him laugh harder, and made Emi laugh too, delighted at having started it. Then one of her climbed onto him, impaling herself on his cock expertly and gasping at the thrust of pleasure, working him up again with her hips, her while body, her other self pulling his hands to her breasts, nipples as hard as diamonds.

The three of them went back and forth like that for a while, easy and unhurried, nobody in any hurry to let the joke die out on its own. Emi refused every fresh attempt to get a number out of her, each refusal more theatrically solemn than the last, upper right hand pressed to her heart as though she were being asked to break a genuine confidence. Andy tried twice more to get someone, anyone, to keep official score on his behalf, and got swatted both times for the trouble, once by each Laura in turn.

Laura offered, at one point, to time him herself, and then immediately withdrew the offer on the grounds that she refused to be anyone's stopwatch, which set Emi off laughing again, hard enough that she had to press two hands flat against the mattress to keep from toppling sideways into the pillows. Eventually, still smiling, the Laura who'd been curled against Emi's own Andy shifted and settled back instead against Emi's side directly, content, her head finding the curve of Emi's shoulder like it had been waiting there the whole time and only just remembered where it belonged.

The mood shifted again from there, quieter now, slower than either the earlier tangle or the teasing that had just passed through the room. Nobody seemed in any hurry to get anywhere in particular; all three of them, for the moment, seemed entirely content with exactly where they already were. Andy moved between them slowly, unhurried in a way that matched the room itself. He started with the nearer Laura — a long kiss first, his hand finding the small of her back and staying there, then drifting, slow enough that she made a small sound against his mouth and pressed closer for more of it. When he finally drew back, it was only to turn his attention to Emi instead, his hands finding her without any rush behind them, mapping skin he already knew by heart and enjoying the mapping anyway, one hand at her waist and the other tracing up along her ribs until she caught it and held it there, still, just for a moment, before letting him go on.

Andy let himself take his time with each of them in turn rather than trying to hold both at once. He came back to the nearer Laura, unhurried, his mouth finding her throat this time instead of her lips, and felt both of her shiver at once, the second body's breath catching in an echo half a beat behind the first. Emi watched them for a moment, unhurried herself, before two of her hands found Andy's back and the other four found wherever else they could reach — one Laura's hair, the other's wrist, her own knee, all of it at once and none of it demanding anything. When he finally turned back to her, she met him halfway, her fingers curling at the back of his neck to keep him exactly there.

The room around them had gone warm in a way that had nothing to do with the temperature. It was a warmth that seemed to come from somewhere closer than the air itself, sweet at the edges — the kind that made staying still feel like its own reward, not a thing to be endured on the way to anything else. None of them remarked on it. It simply was how the room felt now, the way it would always feel thanks to Inanna's Garden, deep enough into a night like this one.

Eventually all three of them slowed the rest of the way down, tangled together loosely across the bed, nobody left wanting to be anywhere but exactly there. Emi tucked herself in against Laura's side, one hand still loosely laced with Andy's, her eyes half-closing in the candlelight, the other five hands gone still at last, folded or resting or simply spent. For a long while the room held nothing but the sound of the sea outside, faint and unhurried, and the three of them breathing together, settled, the night still stretched open wide ahead of them with nowhere at all it needed to go.

The stillness that had settled over the three of them at the end of the last long stretch went on deepening, unhurried, nobody in any rush to be the one who broke it. The candle had burned down further now, finally keeping something closer to ordinary pace, and the room had gone dim and warm and close in the particular way a room gets in the deep middle of a night nobody wants to end.

It was Laura who noticed first. She'd felt it before she could have named what she was noticing. Emi's breathing had changed rhythm against her shoulder. It was taking her too long to answer anything, and her eyes kept drifting shut between one blink and the next, staying that way a beat too long each time. Laura watched it happen twice more before she said anything, propping herself up just enough to look properly.

“Hey.” She nudged Emi gently with her shoulder. “You still with us? Or already halfway gone?”

Emi's eyes came open at once, indignant, though the thickness already creeping into her own voice undercut the effect a little. “I'm awake.” A pause, as if to prove it. “Thank you very much. I'm just resting my eyes.”

“Mm-hm.” Laura didn't sound remotely convinced, and didn't bother pretending otherwise.

Andy laughed, quiet, and let the second version of himself fold back into one without any fanfare. There was no more reason to stay split now that the night had slowed this far down; the second body dissolved back into the first as easily as it had appeared hours before. He settled in beside Emi, propped on one elbow, and looked down at her with the same half-smile Laura was already wearing.

“Resting your eyes for that long,” he said, “usually has another name.”

Emi mumbled something short and stubbornly unconvincing back at both of them — the words themselves lost somewhere against the pillow, the tone unmistakably a protest — and neither Andy nor Laura pushed the tease any further than that. There didn't seem to be any real fight left in her to push against.

He settled in beside her properly, and both of Laura's bodies curled in close from the other side. For a while the three of them simply lay together in the near-dark, letting the sound of the sea outside fill in whatever was left of the quiet. Emi's breathing slowed further, deep and even, her six arms gone loose and heavy around whichever of them she'd last reached for — two curled around Laura, two folded against her own chest, the last pair simply open on the sheet, palms up, empty of anything to hold. Andy watched her a moment — the particular, unguarded stillness of someone losing the fight against sleep without quite admitting it yet — and felt something warm and simple settle in his chest at the sight of it. This close to the end of a night like this one, there was nowhere else in the world he'd rather have been keeping watch.

He thought, without meaning to, of what he'd told Laura hours ago on the couch downstairs — that he wasn't letting tomorrow take her. He'd meant it then and he meant it lying here now, watching Emi lose her own small battle against sleep with a stubbornness that had nothing left to prove itself against. Whatever tomorrow actually asked of him, this was the shape of the thing he was trying to protect: exactly this, women breathing slow and even on either side of him, unguarded enough to fall asleep mid-sentence and trust him to still be there when they woke. He didn't say any of that out loud. There wasn't any need to, not tonight.

Partway through some drifting thought of her own, Emi stirred enough to try to say something. “I don't want it to end yet,” she murmured, the words coming slow, unhurried, half-formed, her eyes not quite opening all the way to say it. “I want to stay awake for all of—”

The sentence dissolved before she reached the end of it. Her voice simply trailed off into something softer, slower, and didn't pick back up — no dramatic collapse, no sudden weight pulling her under, just a sentence that ran out of road partway through and became breathing instead. Her hand, which had been loosely laced with Andy's, went soft and heavy against his, all the small tension gone out of her fingers at once. Andy waited a moment, still, half-expecting her to surface again and finish the thought the way she usually did when she caught herself dozing — but nothing came. Just the slow, even rise and fall of her breathing, steadier with every second that passed.

And with her, so gently that neither Andy nor Laura could have said exactly when it happened, the strange, stretched quality the night had carried for hours eased back out of the room. The sea's sound outside sharpened, resumed its ordinary rhythm, wave following wave at the pace waves were supposed to keep. The candlelight caught up with itself all at once, guttering low and small the way a candle burned that long actually should have looked by now, throwing thinner shadows across the ceiling than it had a moment before. The air lost whatever faint sweetness had been sitting in it for hours, thinning back down into nothing more than ordinary night air. Ordinary time settled back in around the two of them, quiet and unremarkable, exactly where it had always been waiting for them to come back to it.

Laura was the one who caught it happening, going still herself, and looked past Emi's sleeping face to check that Andy had seen it too.

He had. He murmured something to her, low, more feeling than actual words — something about how far under she'd gone, how completely, how there wasn't a single part of her still holding back from it. Laura answered just as quietly, agreeing without needing the sentence spelled out any further than that.

But Andy and Laura were still wide awake.

Andy gathered Emi up carefully, one arm under her knees and the other behind her shoulders, and lifted her without waking her. She didn't stir beyond a small, settling sigh against his chest, one hand curling loosely into the crook of his arm and staying there. Laura followed close beside him, one hand resting lightly against Emi's arm the whole way. Together the two of them carried her out of the bedroom and to the Consort's Bedroom, its own bed turned down and waiting, untouched all night.

They settled her in together, drawing the covers up the same careful way they had minutes ago, and for a moment the two of them just stood there in the doorway, watching her sleep. Laura reached down and brushed a stray strand of hair back from Emi's face before they went.

“She's really out,” Andy said, low, pulling the door most of the way shut behind them — most of the way, not all the way, a crack of hallway light left falling across the floor of the room in case she woke disoriented.

“Completely.” Laura glanced back once more before they turned away. “She earned it.”

They walked back down the hall together in a quiet that had nothing awkward in it, and Andy realized, somewhere around the middle of the walk, that it was the first time since the Dream Date the two of them had been anywhere alone. He hadn't thought about it as it was happening; there hadn't been a version of the night that felt like it was missing anything. But now that it had arrived, the absence of anyone else in the hallway sat differently than he expected it to. Something in the air had shifted with it, a kind of anticipation he hadn't felt yet tonight, quieter than excitement and a good deal more specific.

Back in their own room, Laura didn't go straight for the bed. She stopped a few feet short of it instead, turning to face him properly, both of her doing it at once with the same small, private smile.

“I have something to show you,” she said.

Andy raised an eyebrow, more curious than concerned. “Yeah?”

“Something I've been sitting on. All night, actually.” She hesitated, just for a second, both her voices catching on the same beat before she pushed through it. “Do you remember the Hot Seat? Arabella's whole Q&A thing, in front of everyone.”

“I remember.” He did — vividly, actually, though he wasn't sure yet why she was bringing it up now. “You want to tell me which part, or am I guessing?”

That got a small laugh out of her, some of the nervous edge easing off it. “There was a round where the question came up about— “ she gestured vaguely at herself, both bodies, “ —this. Whether I'd ever go from two of me to three. It came up out of nowhere, in front of the entire harem, and I told everyone the truth: that the upgrade exists, that I'd priced it, and that I couldn't afford it.” A small, wry huff of a laugh. “Half the room offered to cover it for me on the spot. I turned every single one of them down.”

“I remember that part too.” He was watching her now with the particular stillness he got when he could tell something real was coming and didn't want to get in front of it by guessing wrong. “You turned down a room full of people who love you without even having to think about it.”

“I didn't want it that way.” Something soft and a little rueful crossed her face. “Owed to a dozen people, decided in front of everyone before I'd even decided it myself. If it ever happened, I wanted it to actually be mine.”

Laura didn't make him wait for it. “I bought it myself. This morning.” She let that land a second before she went on, her voice dropping, both of her going quieter together. “A Pair and a Spare. I've had it since this morning, and I haven't triggered it yet. I've been sitting on it all night, waiting.”

“Waiting for what?”

“For tonight.” One voice now, barely — the two of her narrowing down to something closer to a single thread of sound, the way it only ever did when she meant something all the way through. “Not some random day. Not because it was convenient, or because I finally had the funds, or any of that. I wanted it to be tonight, specifically — the night before we stand in front of everyone and promise ourselves to each other. I wanted this to be part of that. Not something I did before the wedding. My wedding gift.”

Andy felt something catch hard in his throat before he had a single word ready. “Laura—”

She didn't wait for him to find the rest of the sentence. She reached for whatever it was inside herself that made the change happen — the same effortless pull he'd watched a hundred times from the other side of it. A third Laura stepped into being beside the other two: the same face, the same voice waiting behind it, looking back at him now from three places instead of two.

For a long moment Andy just stared, something enormous and warm cracking open somewhere under his sternum. Then he laughed — startled, delighted, more than a little stunned — and crossed the last few feet between them and pulled all three of her into one crushing hug at once, arms wrapped as far around the three of them as they'd go.

“Okay,” all three of her managed at once, one still muffled against his shoulder, laughing, “being hugged like this — all three of me at once — is a lot. But I'm not complaining. I outnumber you now, even if you split.” The three of her laughed together, bright and a little breathless, before turning her attention back to him.

When Andy finally found words again, what came out first was a short, half-disbelieving laugh, and the confession followed right behind it before he'd properly decided to say it out loud. “Actually, I did the exact same thing.” He shook his head, still catching up to himself. “Entirely on my own. I didn't tell you either.”

All three of Laura went very still. “What?”

“My own version. The three-body branch on Connect.” He rubbed a hand back through his hair, something between embarrassed and amazed at himself. “You remember I told everyone that day I had no idea what a third version of me would even look like. That was true when I said it. It's still mostly true.” He huffed a short laugh at himself. “I bought it anyway. This afternoon. Told myself I'd figure out the rest later, whenever it actually mattered.”

“Why didn't you say anything?”

“For the same reason you kept it to yourself, I imagine.” He gave a slight, self-conscious shrug. “It felt like something I had to decide for myself first. Sit with it in private before bringing it out into the open.” A pause, more deliberate this time. “Especially to you. The last thing I wanted was for you to feel pressured—like you needed to keep pace or that I was waiting on your move.” Another beat, the air between them holding the unspoken understanding. “I got it when I left the Scavenger Hunt to write that ribbon, and sat on it, waiting for the right time. Turns out the right time was always going to be tonight, whether we planned it that way or not.”

For a second nobody said anything. Then Laura started laughing, all three of her at once, helpless with it. “Of course you did.” She wiped at her eyes, still grinning. “I'm not even surprised. Some part of me expected it.”

“Yeah.” Andy huffed out a laugh of his own, low, and reached for her—all three of her—again. “Whatever either of us decided on our own, alone, without asking. It was always going to be fine with the other one. I think we both just knew that, going in.”

“We did.” She said it simply, like it needed no more defending than that.

He held her gaze a moment longer, and something in him settled the rest of the way into certainty. “Yours,” he said, quiet, the same two words he'd given her once before, a long time ago now, and meant every bit as much tonight. “Always.”

He reached for the same place inside himself he'd reached for hours earlier in the bedroom down the hall, familiar now, effortless, and let it go. A second and a third Andy stepped forward beside the first one, identical down to the same crease in the same shirt, and for one long moment Andy and Laura simply looked at each other like this — three and three, matched again—before either of them moved.

Then they closed the last of the distance together, all six of them meeting in the middle of the room in one long, unhurried embrace, arms finding arms until there was no telling anymore where one of them ended and the next began. It was strange and it was familiar all at once — the same two people, tripled now into something new. Nothing about the shape of holding her had changed at all. Only the sheer amount of her there was to hold.

They stood like that a long while, in no hurry to be the ones who moved first this time either, the room around them gone as quiet and unhurried as the one down the hall where Emi slept on, undisturbed, through all of it.
