Maybe he can get a few hours of sleep.
Awakening
After a few more hours of fitful sleep, Kael rises from bed. Dawn has broken, and he has things to do. Throwing on a pair of loose pants, he heads into the hall, noting that Evie’s door is open, and her room empty. Walking down the hall, he hears sounds from the kitchen, and the smell of cooking wafts through the air.
Evie is in the kitchen, making breakfast. When Kael steps in, she doesn’t notice him there, busy with the food. As she turns to grab more ingredients, she gasps to see him standing in the doorway. Evie hesitates, her eyes going to Kael’s bare torso. She stares at his muscles form for a moment, before suddenly gasping and looking down. Kael can see her cheeks redden.
“Master! I didn’t hear you wake up. I apologize for not having breakfast ready yet.”
Kael shrugs. “You don’t have to apologize, Evie. And you didn’t need to make anything.”
Evie continues to look down, though he can see her glancing at him. She continues to blush. It’s actually kind of cute, he thinks to himself.
“This is what I am supposed to do, is it not, master? I was told to tend to your needs.”
Kael nods. “That’s fine. Just make sure you make enough for yourself as well, ok?”
Evie looks up in surprise, her reddish eyes wide. “Are you sure, master? The same food as you?”
Kael smiles. “Of course. We’ll make that a rule. We eat together, the same food. Is that ok?”
Evie nods, looking back down at the ground. “Yes, master.”
“Good. I’ll let you get back to it. It smells delicious, by the way.”
On impulse, he reaches out and gently pats her shoulder. Evie gasps, blushing again. Kael turns to go get dressed, but as he leaves he glances over his shoulder to see her watching him with a strange expression, her small hand on her shoulder where he touched her. When she sees him looking, she blushes yet again, hurriedly turning back to her cooking.
With a shrug, Kael leaves her to her work.
