Author’s Note

This one is an homage to another great and now sadly defunct podcast. Kyle Brown and Eric Kimelton wrote and put together something that was basically lightning in a bottle with King Falls AM. Kyle’s voice lends itself easily to radio as “Shotgun” Sammy Stevens. Noah James is perfect as Ben Arnold who describes himself as “average height, medium rage”. The amazing Trent Shumway does so many different voices… and the town is so well fleshed out that if all the bizarre things that occur over the show’s run were absent you could almost believe that there really is a King Falls somewhere in the Rockies or Appalachians.

Sadly they only gave us 100 (amazing) episodes before the team split due to some never revealed internal conflict. Eric has gone on to work on visual effects for movies like Aquaman and the upcoming Morbius, and Kyle has kept a pretty low profile but has been working on screenplays. Noah most recently played Andrew to Apostle in The Chosen.

King Falls was the third podcast I binged after The Magnus Archives and Rabbits. It serves as the inspiration not just for this story, but for me in day to day life. As Ben sings to us (yes, sings, there’s a fucking full production musical episode… trust me, it makes sense in context) in Episode 40:

As we look back this year, it’s as clear as can be

Bad times are tough but not tougher than me

From this moment on, there’s no going back now
