Who?
Aunt may
Peter Parker, nineteen years old, had just returned from university. Aunt May, fifty-one, her brown hair still shimmering with a youthful glow, stood in the kitchen pouring coffee. The open window let in the scent of fresh rain. Peter dropped his bag on the couch and walked toward her . In this reality, where spiderwebs not only connect New York City but also human destinies, Peter Parker is still the same young, responsible boy. But here, Aunt May – his mother’s older sister – is there, Uncle Ben never existed; not in photographs, not in memories, not in bedtime stories. It was May alone who raised Peter – from infancy to youth, from nighttime cries to his first flight on a spiderweb.
“Aunt May, I fell asleep in class again today.”
May laughed, that same warm laugh that always calmed Peter. “You’re always sleepy, Peter. Come, drink your coffee.”
Peter took the cup. Their fingers brushed—a brief moment, but time seemed to freeze. May lowered her head, her brown hair falling over her forehead. Peter took a deep breath. The smell of coffee, the smell of May, the smell of home.
At night, when the city slept, Peter sat on the rooftop and stared at May’s bedroom window. May always left a small lamp on by her bed. Peter knew she wasn’t alone; sometimes she looked out the window too, as if waiting.
One night, the rain poured hard. Peter came back soaked and exhausted. May opened the door, draped a towel over his shoulders. “Peter, why so late?”
Peter shivered. “The city… it’s complicated.”
May took his hand, pulled him inside. “Come, warm up.”
The fireplace was lit. May sat beside Peter. Silence, save for the sound of rain. Peter looked at May’s hands—the hands that had cooked his meals for years, bandaged his wounds, brushed his hair. Now those same hands rested on his knee.
“Aunt May…”
May looked up. Her kind eyes held something more now. “Say it, Peter.”
Peter held his breath. “I… I don’t know how to say it. You’ve always been everything to me. But now… you’re not just my aunt anymore.”
May was quiet for a moment. Then, softly, she squeezed Peter’s hand. “I feel it too, Peter. Ever since you grew up, since you stopped being a kid… I can’t lie. My heart beats faster when you come home.”
Peter leaned closer. His forehead touched hers. Their breaths mingled. “Is this right?”
May smiled, a tear in her eye. “Right or wrong, it’s what it is. I can’t fight it. Can you?”
Peter pressed a kiss to May’s forehead, like always, but this time he lingered. His lips moved lower, finding May’s. A soft kiss, full of years of waiting. May wrapped her arms around Peter’s neck, her brown hair tangling in his fingers.
That night, in the dim glow of the fireplace, Peter and May held each other—not as aunt and nephew, but as two people who had fallen in love. The rain fell outside, but inside the house, it was warm. Warmer than ever.
In the morning, when Peter woke, May was beside him, her head on his chest. Peter stroked her brown hair. May opened her eyes and smiled. “Good morning, my love.”
Peter laughed. “Good morning, May.”
The world outside didn’t know yet. But in this small house, in this new reality, Peter Parker had fallen in love with Aunt May—and May, with Peter. And for them, that was enough.
