Attitude

Ethan thinks back. "We only met a few times, but I remember her being nice."

"Oh she can be plenty nice," Alex pauses, considering how to explain things. "Ethan, do you find it funny that a twenty-year-old has a position of power in the town?"

Ethan hadn't considered it until now. "Huh..."

"Weird, right?"

"Yeah..." Ethan sips his Coke.

"Well," Alex continues. "Sam's had a chip on her shoulder her whole life, and I guess at some point she decided that when she wants something, she'll do whatever it takes to get it. Most of us in town are fairly mellow. Sort of just 'take it as it comes', but not Sam. That girl's on a mission."

"Mission?"

Alex shrugs. "I don't know. She's ambitious, and it's kind of made her..." she nods towards Earl, "Hard to get along with."

"Well," Ethan shrugs, "I'm looking for a job, not a friend." Smiling at Alex, Ethan toasts her with his Coke. "Already got a pretty good one of those."

Alex smiles, raising her own Coke. "With benefits."
