Overview of Atria
Atria, nestled in the picturesque southwestern corner of the expansive realm of Idruinn, stands as a bastion of power under the unwavering rule of the Valenhyrd Empire. At its helm is King Drust Valenhyrd III, a weathered but resolute monarch whose iron grip on the empire's affairs has endured the test of time. The Valenhyrd Empire, renowned as one of the three Great Empires of Idruinn, boasts not only formidable military prowess but also immense wealth that serves as the cornerstone of its influence across the continent.
The beating heart of Atria is the grand capital city of Wardhurst, a sprawling metropolis home to approximately 225,000 residents. While the majority of Wardhurst's populace consists of humans, it is a melting pot of diversity, welcoming a significant number of elves and dwarves into its vibrant tapestry of life. These nonhuman citizens number around 50,000, a testament to Atria's relatively progressive stance on race relations.
Despite the lingering spectre of racism that haunts the interactions between different species, Atria stands out as a beacon of tolerance and acceptance among the nations of Idruinn. Here, nonhumans enjoy a degree of equality that is rare in this strife-ridden world, with only changelings bearing the burden of near-outlaw status.
The political landscape of Atria is shaped by the influential King's Council, a body composed primarily of noblemen. This council, responsible for advising the king on matters of state, includes three esteemed elves and two venerable dwarves among its ranks. These ambassadors of their respective races not only symbolise Atria's commitment to inclusivity but also provide invaluable insights and perspectives on governance.
Within the Valenhyrd dynasty, the illustrious Crown Prince Thomas Valenhyrd is the heir apparent to the empire's throne. However, it's worth noting that he is not the sole heir, as Princess Morgan Valenhyrd, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful women in the world, stands as the second in line for the crown. Their presence in the royal lineage ensures a sense of continuity and tradition in Atria's rule, even as the world around them continues to evolve.
Monarchy
King Drust Valenhyrd III
King Drust Valenhyrd III is the current ruler of Atria, a monarch known for his unwavering rule and resolute leadership. He has weathered the challenges of his time, earning respect and perhaps a touch of fear from his subjects. Drust is a tall man, standing at an impressive 6 feet and 3 inches, despite his age. Like all members of the House of Valenhyrd, his eyes are jade in colour, and his hair, although now silver, was once a thick auburn. Drust was once a muscular and broad man, and although much of his physique remains, he has lost much to age. The king is 62 years of age, and has ruled for an astonishing 41 of those years, and many notable events occurred during this lengthy reign. The Atrian Monarch is a just man, a proud worshipper of the Mighty Orion, and was once a highly respected battle commander. He translated this skill in warfare to the ruling of his kingdom, and hence rules firmly and directly, caring little for statesmanship, instead delegating much of his power to his children. Drust’s reign, as is the case with many monarchs, has been faced with numerous rebellions, both in the form of open conflict and quiet betrayals. Two such rebellions are Trobeth and Carthai. The former conflict occurred a few years into King Drust’s reign, and consisted of many nobles declaring against him due to increased taxes against the nobility. He brought these rebels to their knees by blockading their ports and laying siege to their keeps, until he either starved them out or they bent the knee once more. He allowed any surrendering lord to keep his lands, but each was **** to pay fines and offer hostages to prevent such a situation from occurring again. One such hostage was a beautiful woman named Lady Elise Muldon, the eldest daughter of one of the wealthiest lords to rebel. King Drust quickly became infatuated with Lady Elise, and married her within a few months. She soon became pregnant with their eldest child, a boy named Thomas. A few years after the birth of their second child, a girl named Morgan, Lady Elise fell ill. She was often ill throughout her life, and so, even with much worry for his wife, Drust was confident she would recover. Unfortunately, she never recovered from this ailment, and died a month before Thomas’ birthday.
Crown Prince Thomas
Crown Prince Thomas Valenhyrd, the heir apparent to the throne of Atria, is a striking figure reminiscent of his father, King Drust Valenhyrd III. In both appearance and demeanour, he carries forward the legacy of House Valenhyrd. Thomas possesses the same tall stature that runs in the Valenhyrd bloodline, standing at an impressive 6 feet and 4 inches. His features echo those of his father in his youth, with the same jade-coloured eyes that seem to pierce through any facade and a thick auburn mane of hair that falls gracefully over his shoulders. His physique is muscular and robust, a testament to the martial tradition of his family. Much like King Drust, Crown Prince Thomas is known for his unwavering resolve and resolute character. He shares his father's sense of duty and responsibility to the people of Atria. Thomas is a just and principled leader, unyielding in his commitment to the well-being of his kingdom. Thomas has been groomed for leadership from a young age, receiving an education that emphasised not only the art of warfare but also the intricacies of statecraft. His military training has honed his strategic mind, and he has already demonstrated his prowess on the battlefield in various campaigns, earning the respect of Atria's military commanders. Thomas maintains a close relationship with King Drust, whose guidance and mentorship have been instrumental in shaping him into the future monarch of Atria. Their shared values and similarities in character make for a strong bond between father and son, ensuring a smooth transition of power when the time comes. As the heir to the Valenhyrd dynasty, Thomas carries the weight of expectations and legacy on his shoulders. He understands that he must uphold the principles and traditions of his family, continuing the rule of resolute leadership that has defined House Valenhyrd for generations. Among the people of Atria, Crown Prince Thomas is a figure of hope and continuity. Many view him as the embodiment of the kingdom's future, and his popularity reflects the deep respect and trust the citizens have in the Valenhyrd dynasty. During the rebellion of Carthai, Thomas was given the rank of Marshal of the Atrian Army and tasked with quelling the revolution, a task he performed admirably and justly. He granted the rebel lords clemency, in a similar fashion to his father during the Trobeth Revolution. While Thomas is devoted to his role as the future king, he also harbours personal ambitions and interests. Whether it's delving into the intricacies of governance, exploring the world beyond Atria's borders, or pursuing intellectual pursuits, he seeks to strike a balance between his duties and his personal growth. Crown Prince Thomas Valenhyrd stands as a living testament to the enduring legacy of House Valenhyrd. His striking resemblance to his father, both in appearance and character, ensures that Atria's resolute leadership will continue in the capable hands of the Valenhyrd lineage for generations to come.
Princess Morgan
Princess Morgan Valenhyrd, the second in line for the throne of Atria, is a striking and accomplished diplomat who possesses a unique beauty that captivates the realm of Idruinn. In many ways, she is a shining example of grace and charm within the Valenhyrd dynasty. Morgan stands as a testament to the diversity even within the Valenhyrd family. Unlike her father and elder brother, her hair is a lustrous shade of blonde that cascades down her back in silky waves. However, she shares the striking jade-green eyes characteristic of her family, which seem to hold a deep well of wisdom and insight. Her presence is marked by an innate elegance that commands attention wherever she goes. Morgan's true strength lies in her diplomatic prowess. She is renowned throughout the realm of Idruinn for her ability to negotiate, mediate, and forge alliances. Her keen intellect and empathetic nature enable her to deftly navigate the intricate web of political relationships that define Atria's place in the world. Kindness and generosity are the hallmarks of Morgan's character. She genuinely cares about the well-being of Atria's citizens and often involves herself in charitable endeavours to improve their lives. Her benevolent nature endears her to both nobles and commoners alike. Despite her undeniable beauty and gracious disposition, Princess Morgan has rejected numerous marriage proposals from noble lords across the realm of Idruinn. Her reasons for remaining unmarried are known only to her closest confidantes, leading to much speculation and intrigue among the court. Morgan values her independence and the ability to pursue her diplomatic career without the constraints of a marriage alliance. She believes that her role in the diplomatic arena can serve the interests of Atria more effectively than a political marriage. Morgan shares a close and supportive relationship with her older brother, Crown Prince Thomas. Together, they represent the future of Atria's leadership and often collaborate on matters of state, combining her diplomatic skills with his military prowess. Princess Morgan is not only admired for her diplomatic talents but also revered for her unwavering commitment to the principles of justice and equality. She is seen as a symbol of Atria's progressive stance on race relations and gender equality. While her royal duties are paramount, Morgan also harbours personal aspirations. She is an avid scholar with a passion for history and the arts, often finding solace in the quiet corners of Atria's grand libraries.
