At least until Alex disappears

You and Alex make your way into the halls and move towards the convenience store

"You run towards the canned goods, I'll check out the cereal department and toilet paper," Alex suggests quietly as you come to the opening, finding the place abandoned but not completely looted.

"This store is huge and the cereals are right there," you whisper in return while you point at an aisle a few yards away as you pick up a hand basket for ease of maneuverability through the debris on the floor. "Why split up?"

"We need the time, I don't want to go out again for a week or two," Alex replies curtly as he picks up his own hand basket and begins to move out.

You're not happy with the answer, but you scoff and move off. Hopefully the place isn't filled with sleeping zombies or something waiting for a stray sound to attack you. So far you've not seen signs of a single soul. The lights are okay in the convenience store. They're not all turned on, but a few keep the place lit enough to read details up close.

As you get to the canned goods department, you're relieved to find it's not completely empty. You fill your basket half full with various flat and cylindrical cans and move back towards the exit.

And... Alex is nowhere to be heard or seen. You skip over to the cereal aisle. Nothing to see there either. You stand still for a moment hoping to hear footsteps as you get more and more annoyed.
