Chapter 25

What do you ask?
Ask how she is, I guess.
Trying to clear the air, you ask how she’s doing. She stammers out a reply, just barely able to return to her spot behind the counter. She then closes her eyes and exhales. She looks very elegant when she does this. You can't pin the reason, but she looks to be very...out of place when you just look at her. She opens her eyes. Her bright eyes lock onto yours and she works a small smile.
“You have my deepest condolences.” She tells you. “It’s been so quiet here today that you seriously caught me off guard!”
“Well, you have my apologies too then.” You counter, which makes her smile. That suits her much better than the surprised expression she wore a few moments ago. You proceed to ask where some of the medicines are. Her brows furrowed slightly as she conjured something to say.
“Are they not in their usual place?”
You shake your head. “Nothing is…”
She laughs a little and works her way around the counter. “I’m sorry, I’m new here and should have mentioned that we’re undergoing some repairs, so much of our stock is actually in storage.”
The girl thinks for a moment as she leads you to the back door. “Ah, let me check if everything is still here. My employers had plans to move it to the warehouse until the repairs were done.”
She disappears for a few minutes, allowing Delilah to find you. She tells you that the store is basically empty. You gesture to the door and tell her someone had just gone back there to find what you are looking for. She crosses her arms and sighs. “Well, I think I’m going to step out in the meantime.”
She sneezes and rubs her nose. “This place is kinda setting off my allergies, ironically.” You pinched her nose a little and told her you’ll catch up.
Her face had turned bright red when you touched her like that, but didn’t say anything about it. She smiles brightly and walks away, agreeing she’ll catch up with you later.
Just as she leaves, the girl from the store returns. She pokes around with a concerned look. “Who were you talking to?”
You tell her it was just a friend. She nods and clears her throat. “Well, we have the medicine, they just aren’t in any labeled containers…”
“Ah.” You didn’t really know what she meant, so you asked if you could go back and collect what you needed.
“I thought you’d say that,” she fidgets and nods. “You can. But don’t do anything you shouldn’t, please?”
Now that it's been brought it, you aren't really sure if you should be behind the store or not. You caught-off guard before, but now that you've had some time to relax, you've noticed that your instincts are going off. You don't think it's coming from the girl, but something is seriously misplaced here. As you step back to consider your options, you notice that she has her eyes trained to your side arm. She looks away, putting on a dull expression. Even if she isn't the source of your instincts, she's strange for more than one reason...
Should you stay out or go in?
