Chapter 26 by TheSpectator TheSpectator

Should you stay out or go in?

Fuck it. Let's go in.

Ah, well. Fuck your instincts.

You've been feeling a little weird since you've started to spend actual time with Delilah. So what's the worst thing that could happen? When you tell the girl this, her face twists somewhat, almost as if she was expecting (or hoping?) you'd do something different.

"Right," she says with a swallow. "Follow me then."

The backroom is well-lit and very organized. You are a little bit surprised to see that it at all messy since the store had been in the process of moving around their stock and product. After a short walk down the aisles, you see two pallets stacked with boxes. There are three columns, each of them are five boxes tall. As she described, they're not all labeled, so their contents are unknown. You stand there with your hands on your hips for a few seconds, debating whether or not it would be a good idea to start digging in. You look at the clerk and ask her if she has any idea of what is inside. She shrugs.

"Just product." She answers flatly. "Anything could be in one of the boxes."

You nod, sucking on your lips. "Well, fuck it. Let's start from the top."

She looks at you briefly. "Mm."

You start from the top; as promised, you start opening the boxes. Surprisingly, the pill bottles aren't labeled either. You open the bottles take a few pills out. Judging by their looks, you can gather what is what. Most of the medications are just vitamins. A, B, C, oils, and other shit you aren't looking for.

"What's your name?" The girl asks suddenly. You look up and see that she's still on her first box. She isn't very keen on unboxing and helping some stranger unloading a whole pallet for sale. "My name is Bloem." Her name is fitting. It captures her features perfectly somehow. You exchange your information with her. She listens carefully as you break into small talk. She doesn't talk a lot about herself, but that doesn't matter to you that much since talking makes it seem like you are more in control of the situation...

...Isn't until you reach the middlebox of the first column when you find some weirder products. You spill the contents into your palm and stare at them. Bright blue? You put them back into their containers and open another one. Bright red? Bloem did not comment; she just proceeds to open and check the bottles from her own box. You started to go through the other bottles, finding that they were much of the same thing: same size, shape, and color. Every so often, Bloem would look up and stare at a random part of the room - probably expecting one of her supervisors to come out and yell at her...

"Do you know which ones these are?" You ask. She smiles a little and shakes her head.

"I just sell the product. I don't know what they do."

"That's kinda dangerous, isn't it?"

She smiles wider. "Well, these are supposed to be in their bottles with warnings and such, so you don’t overdose. So if you're worried about it, why don't you take one and see what happens?"

Bloem continues where she left off, not knowing she's just planted the seed of an idea in your head. You look at the bottles and take one pill of each color: Blue and red. Brightly colored in the shape of a perfect capsule. You thought you could remember another bounty hunter talking about these at one point. They looked vaguely familiar; you just couldn't recall the exact features.

Should you take the RED or BLUE pill?
