Chapter 20
by Bengates
Prompt: Sarah takes a quest from the guild. Sarah is some type of adventurer. Sarah is young and powerful. Jake finds Sarah before she leaves on her quest and asks to join, mischievously. Sarah is very serious about her career and wants to prove herself.
As you can see, some of the prompts need to be fairly detailed, especially since we want this to have a plot. That said, it was the Ai that made Sarah an adventurer so I'm just rolling with it.
Sarah eagerly took on the quest to slay the clan of goblins in the cave in the mountains. She packed her backpack with food, potions, and her spellbook, taking extra care to pack her enchanted wand, just in case. Despite her power, Sarah was still young and inexperienced, and she knew that anything could happen on a quest, the danger excited her as it always had.
As Sarah packs her gear, Jake, in his wolf form, finds her. He approaches her with a mischievous expression on his face.
"Hey, Sarah. Where are you headed?" Jake asks playfully.
Sarah turns to him, her face serious. "I'm taking a quest from the guild to slay a clan of goblins in a cave in the mountains."
Jake's ears perk up. "Sounds like fun. Mind if I come with you?"
Sarah's expression turns stern. "I appreciate the offer, Jake, but I want to take this quest seriously. I'm a powerful sorceress, and I want to prove myself by completing it on my own.."
Jake nods, a glint in his eyes. "I understand, Sarah. I won't interfere with your quest. But just in case you need help, I'll could be there to lend a paw."
Sarah looks at Jake, her expression serious. "I appreciate the offer, but I need to do this on my own. I can't have people thinking I'm getting help from a werewolf, no matter how ancient and powerful he is."
Jake tilts his head and gives her a sly grin. "I don't just want to help you with the goblins, Sarah. I can keep you warmer than any campfire on those cold mountain nights."
Sarah rolls her eyes, "That's not what I meant, Jake. This is my career, my livelihood. I need to prove myself as an adventurer."
Jake's expression softens, "I understand, Sarah. But I'm not just any ancient son of Fenrir himself, I'm your friend. I want to help you, and I know I can be useful. You don't have to rely on me, but I can be there to watch your back, just in case."
Sarah sighs, looking down at her feet. "Okay, fine. You can come with me, but only as an observer. No fighting, no using your wolf form, and no helping me in any way unless it's an emergency."
Jake grins and wags his tail, "I'll take what I can get. I promise I'll be on my best behavior."
Sarah nods and turns to finish packing her bag, "Good. Now let's go, we don't have time to waste."
((Author's note: again the Ai went with a bland description of what happened instead of making it a scene with dialogue etc... I again asked it to use the principle of Show don't Tell. In my opinion the Ai's first response is to take what you give it in a prompt and make it as concise and short as possible while including everything you ask it for. Normally that's fine, but in fiction that's terrible writing. Chat GPT was not designed to write fiction, necessarily. So, after prompting it again I had to further prompt it to spell out the dialogue. Then it created a version where Sarah and Jake have no tension whatsoever... So I had to **** it to emphasize Jake's care-free attitude and 'ulterior' motives and reinforce Sarah's commitment to her career and concern about Jake's presence.))
Prompt: Describe the scene in which Sarah and Jake walk up the mountain, through a scarry forest (give the forest a spooky sounding name), and have them discuss Jake's feelings towards Amy and her daughter, Dana.
