Chapter 8 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

Under what guise will I meet Eva, and where?

As a visiting physician, I meet with Eva and Nanjo in Eva's resting quarters

As you may or may not know, critical to many tales of the intriguing Rokenjima Incident is the presence of a single medical professional: Doctor Nanjo. This elderly gentleman puts up with a lot throughout these stories; he's tested time and time again. You could argue that a medical doctor ought to make himself a little more useful on average. As much as I love Kinzo's doctor, the island could almost use a coroner more than a doctor. If one doctor's presence is useless here, than what is the point of a second doctor, you ask?

For that answer, we turn to Ushiromiya Eva. The second in line to inherit the vast Ushiromiya fortune, Eva has a vested interest in the health of her aging father, Ushiromiya Kinzo. For years upon years, she's trusted Nanjo's diagnoses. However, one could forgive her for feeling a bit restless; wouldn't it make plenty of sense for her to bring her own counsel? After all, there are numerous benefits to her if certain verdicts are rendered... for instance, the expedition of the will and distribution of the Ushiromiya fortune. There's a lot more to say about that, but the key is this: she has use for a doctor that's in her pocket, not the family's. It is under this guise that I have made my way onto the island.

"Is that right, Nanjo? You're telling me there's no point in a second opinion? Isn't gathering a second opinion very common in the medical field, especially when dealing with a patient who ought to be considered geriatric? And you're saying you don't need one?! Mister Player has come a long way from America to be here and you're telling him to just go home?!"

Ah... Eva. Your boldness is as exciting as ever. As you can see, we are off to a bit of a rocky start. Well, as far as Eva's plot goes, anyway. As for me, this is as good a starting point as any, at least as long as I can get Nanjo to leave. It shouldn't be hard; the unfortunate old man looks like he'd do anything to get back to his books or chess games.

"Eva... There is no need for Mister Player to go home. I believe the servants are already preparing him a bed in the guest house and he is welcome to attend our dinner," the old man spoke slowly with measured words, sounding as though he was trying to pick the least controversial conversation topics. I felt for him, as a fellow doctor. It was like he was being **** to eat around the moldy parts of a shit sandwich. "But as for allowing him to form his own opinion, I'm afraid that's out of the question. You know Kinzo's mood... I am lucky if he'll speak to me, his friend of many years. An outside party... at this point... is simply impossible. He won't open the door for another doctor, I'm sure of it."

"And you're willing to place Father's health on the line for that: your assumption?!"

"Eva..." he mumbled, closing his eyes pensively and dabbing at his sweating forehead with a small kerchief.

I wonder how you're enjoying this inheritance drama? It's an important piece of the Rokkenjima mystery, but as you may have learned, I care not for the mystery. I want erotica. The worst part about these arguments, as far as my time here is concerned, is that a debate regarding the inheritance can last hours. I do not have hours to waste...

Frankly, they don't either, but trying to warn them all would be very outside of the scope of this work. Now, how should I proceed to get that beloved old man out of this scene...

What should I do next?
