Chapter 9 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

What should I do next?

I concede for now and hold a strategy meeting with Eva

I really had no reason to see Kinzo nor to fight with Doctor Nanjo about it. I sighed and gave the old man his win. I conceded that no doctor can really **** a patient to see him if they don't want treatment. Eva was understandably upset at my decision to give in, but I gave her a smile and told her that I still didn't plan to leave without attending to her father. Nanjo seemed placated for now. I bid him farewell; he exited the room, giving me the alone time I wanted.

Well... the mood wasn't quite what I wanted.

"Player, you idiot! What are you even here for if you're not going to try to see Father?! Is this some game to you?!"

No, no. It's no game to me. I calmed her and told her that I still had every intention of meeting Kinzo, but that perhaps our efforts to do so would be better received through another party. Say, for instance... a ploy. We could meet one of the servants- a weak one like Shannon or Kumasawa- and tell them that I'd heard Kinzo cry out. In such a situation, would they go and fetch Doctor Nanjo? No, of course not! They'd turn to the closest medical professional: me. With that, we'd easily claim our victory. My diagnosis would tell her how much longer the old man had until the matter of his inheritance ceased to be an endless white whale for everyone involved and instead became money close at hand.

This seemed to calm her. She unfolded her fan and sat upon her bed, flapping it with a frustrated flick of her wrist to cool herself. "I apologize, Mister Player. That was unfair of me... I know you're on my side. I just become so agitated when everyone seems to be acting against my elderly father's best interest... He should have a say in what happens here, shouldn't he?! Instead, he's locked away for every family meeting," she sighed in exasperation, now placing the fan down upon the white sheets. Was that really why she was aggravated? She should at least be honest with me, her doctor... "It's as though everyone in this family has gone mad..."

Well, I'll be honest with you, at least: I wanted to be on that bed with her more than anything right now. With Nanjo gone, I believe it's time to plan my next course of action... I cleared my throat and told her I could tell she was stressed. That's no good, I said. After all, she may have brought me here to see her grandfather, but I was still her doctor. She needed something to take the edge off.

What does Eva need to take the edge off?
