Arriving Home

You burst through the door into your home. Gasping for breath. The door swings closed behind you, creaking as it shuts the final few centimetres. The noises and smells of the festival fade away replaced by the familiar sounds of scissor cutting away and the smell of leather. You pause for a second, this is where you grew up, where you spent nearly all of your life. Raised by a single mother by Alana. How will she react when you tell her your leaving. Suddenly you don't feel so confident about this.

Alana looks up from the workbench giving a brief smile before noticing your pained expression.

"What's wrong dear, you know you can talk to me if something's happened" her soothing voice does little to ease your guilt of leaving as she pulls you into a hug

"There's something I have to tell you. Jess is going out adventuring into the world and she invited me to go with her" you pause, you don't know how to tell her that you said yes, what will she think of you for wanting to leave

"Oh John and here I was thinking it was something serious. I know that Jess is leaving, and I know you well enough to know that you would say yes"

You can feel the tension in your body dissipate almost instantly

"You knew?" Your throat croaks out the question as you feel tears well in your eyes. you're not sure how the emotions came about so quickly but you're not sure if you can stop them as a single tear rolls from your eyes. "Ragnor said he would help watch over the shop" trying desperately to comfort someone, though your not sure if it's her or you that needs comforting right now.

"now now, don't cry. you were going to have to leave at some point and what better day than your 18th birthday, now I've got a gift for you so spend it wisely"

Alana walks over to a floorboard by the kitchen before sliding it aside she pulls out a small satchel. she removes 20 coins from the satchel before stashing it back away and hands them to you.

"It's time for you to go explore the world John. and never forget that I love you, and I'll always be here"
