Chapter 13 by aesirnights aesirnights

Battle stations?

Arm topside! Stop all engines. Prepare to repel boarders!

Roblin didn't have long to comfort her, as a cry from the deck rose, and the sound of steel on steel rang out loudly enough to be heard among the cabins. "Repel Boarders!" The call rose above the din, and several of the more militant passengers pushed past them, stopping only to nudge the corpse before heading for the deck, pulling on armor and weapons as they went.

Roblin glanced towards Scragg, who was rummaging through the pirate's possessions. "The elf gave a good account of herself. Impressive." He mumbled. "Rob, Adeline, give it a few moments then make an appearance on the deck. Don't endanger yourselves, but show that we helped." The kobold paused. "Adeline, don't sink anything."

The dark haired woman looked down at him. "And where are you going?"

"To get Tsan cleaned up, and to ask her some questions." The kobold attempted to look innocent.

Adeline scowled, before pressing down the hallway towards the deck. Roblin started to move after her before glancing at Scragg. "She's worked up enough. Don't ye push her too much." With that he followed the weaver.

Scragg snagged Tsan's hand in his claw and dragged her back into the cabin. "Sit." He commanded, waiting until the elf had complied before pulling a cloth and beginning to wipe the blood from Tsan's bare skin. "I wanted to ask my questions of you without them here. I need answers. Honest answers." His nostrils flared and he considered for a moment. "Why were you out of bed?"

Tsan tried to breathe, her heart still racing and her stomach aching with nausea. "I... I had a feeling. I thought I might have heard something." She mumbled.

Scragg gave a noncommittal chuff. "You fought off a pirate. On your own?"

The blue haired elf buried her face in her hands, wracked with sobs. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry! I didn't mean to! I... I had to do something!" She whimpered out, clearly on the verge of a breakdown.

The kobold had never been in the position of trying to comfort an ally. Usually he just calmed hysterical people down enough to get whatever information he needed from them. Now he was confronted with an elf, and apparently a capable one, sobbing in the chair and rocking back and forth gently.

"Tsan." He hardened his tone. "Look at me." The command shook the elf into risking a glance at his face. "You did nothing wrong. You saw a threat, and dealt with it. Whatever past you have, It prepared you for this journey. It gave you the tools to do great things, and I need you to understand that you may be called upon to use those tools, no matter how distasteful they might be."

Tsan closed her eyes, nodding gently at his words. "I... I understand." She whimpered.

Seeming to have made some inroads, the kobold rubbed at the scales on his face gently before continuing. "So... let's have an honest discussion, you and I. How -exactly- did you come to be a whore."

Tsan looked up to his face, eyes wide, and shook her head. "I... I... the way anyone else does... I... I was in need of... I didn't have papers to be in Van. So they did an import license instead, and the brothel bought it." She motioned to the tax and excise office brand over her womb, indicating her status as a legally imported item.

Scragg opened his mouth to question her further when the door to the cabin opened, and Adeline beckoned Scragg to her. After a quick conversation, Scragg nodded.

"We'll continue this later, Tsan." He stated, slipping out of the door and closing it behind him.

Later
