Arc 2 Author's Notes

“Those bounty hunters are a bad omen. Worse still that every day the Order looms ever closer. What shall we do, Mistress?” This lich had been a faithful companion thus far, even if he hadn’t succeeded at many missions. She studied his floating form, silhouetted against the exit of the cave, and the barrier therein.

“Stay the course, everything is accounted for. The surrounding cities and their cemeteries are being scouted as we speak. We certainly won’t be wanting for numbers…” A voice rang out inside the woman’s head, but it wasn’t her own.

“And then you’ll be powerful enough to bring them back?” Sirian felt like a stranger in her own body whenever the being took over, but it was a necessary evil.

“Of course. You get your family back, I get more power, and everybody in this town gets their deepest desires...”

“John?” The Gamer wavered in the air before falling straight to the ground, deadweight. “John!”

The samurai was dispatched to save them all, and damn it if she wasn’t going to do just that. With Asley out of the way, she just needed to get him to a healer as quickly as possible. She rushed forward, intent on catching him despite the heavy armor he was clad in.

The above is a teaser for Arc 3: Contracts and Contact, which should premiere Sunday, January 12th. Join our titular hero as he tries to balance having a social life, a relationship, a bounty hunting job, and the pursuit of power! Featuring many different Kingdoms, the first of which may be quite familiar.

This past arc was one that I had been thinking about for a long time, and aside from a few spur of the moment deviations, was planned out almost exactly as written, a far cry from what the first arc was. Having John learn about how big of a pond he’s in while introducing so many powerful friends and foes has been a blast, and I hope you’re looking forward to seeing what becomes of them as much as I am!

The relationship between John and Jenny didn’t develop as much as I would have liked, but having her join him as a bounty hunter just didn’t feel right. Music is her passion, and I’m happy that she’s found her way as one of the top performers in The Inferno. Writing that part of the story is deeply personal and somewhat connected to my life in a way, so I hope you enjoy it!
