Chapter 51 by Jpyric Jpyric

Maybe he’ll get some answers at dinner…

Appropriate attitude

Evie is all smiles on the way home, enthusiastically asking questions about the fight, short as it was. Kael answers everything, questions ranging from how he learned his hand fighting techniques to how he came up with the plan to win. He’s amused by her interest, considering her complete lack of knowledge and experience with martial arts. Still, he’s happy to share what he knows, and she’s happy to hear all he has to say.

When they arrive at home, Kael heads off to bathe. Evie looks like she’s considering joining him, but instead heads off to busy herself in the kitchen, likely prepping for dinner. After all, apparently they have a guest coming to visit this evening.

When he emerges from the bathroom, after throwing on some comfortable clothes, Kael heads to the kitchen to see what Evie is doing. He finds her chopping vegetables, while humming a tune. Even from behind, Kael can see she’s smiling as she works. He approaches, gently placing his hands on her shoulders, and leans in to kiss her cheek. Evie smiles, and leans back against him affectionately for a moment.

She glances back at him as he steps away. “Master…is that what you’re going to wear tonight?”

Kael looks down at himself. “I don’t see why not.”

Evie shakes her head and turns to face him. “No, master. You should wear something nice. We’re having a guest, after all!”

Kael raises an eyebrow. “It’s just Ria. I’ve known her for a long time. You know our history…”

Evie puts her hands on her hips, shaking her head again. “Doesn’t matter, master! It’s important!”

Kael laughs, shrugging. “Fine, if it’s so important to you. I’ll wear something nice.”

Evie smiles. “Thank you, master. I want this to go well.”

Kael looks at the little elf woman, and now it’s he who shakes his head. “The two of you are plotting something somehow. It’s not subtle.”

Evie nods. “I’m not trying to be subtle, master. And don’t worry, nothing bad will happen.”

Kael laughs again. “If you say so. I trust you, Evie.”

Evie smiles wider. “I’m glad, master. I love you! Now, go get changed, I have cooking to do.”

Kael steps in and kisses her on the lips. “I love you too, Evie. I’ll go find some nice clothes.”

She smiles brightly, and turns back to her cooking, once again humming a tune. Kael watches her for a moment, before chuckling to himself and walking away. She’s getting better at getting him to do what she wants! What’s more, Kael is finding that he doesn’t mind doing those things.

It’s actually kind of nice, in a way.
