Apprentice: Page 5
The rest of the week was much of the same, though, after Lexi's injury, we elected not to play anymore Psyball. Instead, we paired up and tested our spells against each other.
To my disappointment, Lexi's cold attitude returned, though I could tell something was up with her. Regardless. I tried to avoid thinking about it too much. Who cared what she thought. I definitely didn't.
I learned a lot of new spells in this time, like Enhanced Development, Enchant, Dark Aura, Change Size, and even Greater Magic Missile. Or at least, I should have.
Enhanced Development, Enchant, Dark Aura, Change Size.
But no matter how much I tried, I just couldn't cast Magic Missile. Every time I tried I just got the same red beam. Every other spell I could learn in just a moment, but that spell never came out as it should have.
I was outside with the others, and Forester was tapping his foot impatiently.
"Come on, Lucas, most people learn Magic Missile in middle school."
"I'm sorry. I just can't."
"Well then what are you casting?"
"I don't know, this is just what happens when I try."
He pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Ok, maybe just try casting Greater Magic Missile."
I shrugged and prepared to cast it. I felt the spell in my mind, but once I cast it, I didn't get the bright blue missile everyone else did. Instead, just the same old red beam. Of course, seeing the opportunity to be unnecessarily mean, Lexi just had to take it.
"Come on. Johnson. We don't have all day."
I whipped my head around to glare at her.
"Oh, why, do you need to be a bitch inside, rather than outside."
"Ha! At least I'm not wasting everyone's time on a spell even children can do!"
"Funny you mentioned children, considering I've seen children with more magic stamina than you!"
Forester clapped his hands, and the magically amplified sound was deafening.
"Both of you, shut up. Everyone, go inside. We'll try some other time. Magic Missile isn't that good anyway."
I shoved past Lexi on my way inside, just to be a dick.
In my room, I paced, mulling over the problem in my mind. Why can't I cast Magic Missile? I flipped open my laptop and began scouring the web for anything that might explain not being able. I couldn't find anything on that matter specifically, but I did find something even more interesting.
Arrest Report, 11-06-2013
The suspect, Amanda Barbara, was apprehended by a team of Guild members and handed over to the local police, who transferred her to the custody of the MCIA.
Between the times of 1600 and 1800, on 11-03-2013, the suspect was witnessed assisting several other mages in the robbery of Pixie Dust, a potion supply shop. Upon leaving, she, and her co-conspirators, were chased and captured by a team of Guild members.
I read on.
In an interview with special agent Maduro, the suspect called her attacks "Eldritch Blasts". No known spell exists.
"So, that's what it's called."
I closed the computer, weighing this new information. If I could find this out, so could someone else. I took a quick shower, mostly to get my mind off of things. In a loose t-shirt and sweats, I flopped onto my bed. Thankfully, I actually slept well that night.
I did not, however, wake up very well.

Warlock In Training
So you've got a patron, what now?
Every member of Lucas's family is magical... except him. But when he makes a deal with a powerful fiend, he finds out there's more to being a spellcaster than he first thought.
