Appease. On a 7-9, the Warden gets in the way

When you APPEASE your HANGER-ON, on a 7-9, they're a distraction. Take -1 Forward or use a FAVOR for a +1.

The Warden raises her eyebrows to repeat her question.

You nod, feeling a rush of anticipation. "Yes, I do," you say.

The Warden's nostrils flare. She smiles broadly. "I am pleased," she says. "Let's go collect them."

You follow the Warden through House Leontes to the dueling pits where practice is going on. Golondrina and Fay are sitting off to one side. Fay's ice-blonde hair is standing up in a platinum aureole. Or a dandelion puff. You catch a slight singed scent coming off her.

"That was good," Fay tells Golondrina. "Your timing is coming up. But you were throwing STUN, right?"

"Oh, sorry," Golondrina says. "I snapped back to an old spell I learned from my family."

Fay shakes her head. A little curl of smoke rises from her puffed-out hair. "Don't do THAT again. Especially in this House. They'd be queueing up to challenge you till someone puts you in your place."

Fay looks around and meets your eyes, giving you a little smile. "Warden," she says, greeting Barbara Torch.

"Miss Redmoor and guest," the Warden says. "Would you be pleased to accompany us?"

Golondrina rises.

Fay sits, looking a question at you. You purse your lips and dart your tongue-tip twice through the little circle. Fay takes a deep breath, relaxing her shoulders. She pats at her hair, which springs back up again into a cloud. "Perhaps we should, ah, freshen up?" she says.

The Warden leans over Fay and breathes in deeply, twice, and smiles.

She likes it. Does the Warden have an actual fetish for dueling?

"Of course, we should make sure you're comfortable," the Warden says. "Follow me."

Barbara Torch leads you into the staff bathing area near her quarters and sets a ward. "Now we won't be disturbed," she says.

It's a strong ward. You're not sure you could break it.

"Bath is there," she gestures. "There is a cleaning cabinet for your robes. If you will excuse me while I use the convenience, and take care of one or two little things."

Golondrina gives you an uncertain look. "She's here to watch us together?" she asks.

You nod.

Fay tilts her head at the closed door where the Warden excused herself. "Rather fills the room," she says, an edge of pique in her voice.

"I'm worried we won't be able to see each other, otherwise," you say. "Please, let's give it a try." You look at Golondrina. "Will you?"
