Chapter 35 by AddickTara
What next?
Another date
A few days had passed by until Tyrone and I were able to meet up again. This time at another restaurant. The waitress greeted us and led the way.
We followed her to our table, and as we walked, I could tell there were whispers and conversations happening around us. I was sure that people were surprised to see a middle-aged white woman out on a date with a black college-aged kid.
But I didn’t care about their opinions. The only thing that mattered to me was the man by my side, and the way he made me feel when we were together.
We were led to a cozy little table toward the back of the restaurant, partially hidden from view by a small partition. Tyrone held out my chair for me, waiting until I was seated before taking his own, and then flashed me a grin.
“Is this okay?” he asked, nodding toward the partition. “I was hoping we could have a little privacy.”
I returned his smile, touched by the thoughtful gesture. “It’s perfect,” I assured him. “Thank you.”
He waved away my thanks, reaching across the table to take my hand in his. As his thumb stroked over my skin, I felt a shiver run down my spine, a rush of desire pooling in my lower belly.
“I’m really glad you could make it tonight,” he told me, his dark eyes warm with affection. “I know it can’t be easy, sneaking around behind your kids’ backs.”
I shrugged, offering him a wry smile. “To be honest, I’m not sure how much longer I can keep this from them,” I admitted. “They’re getting suspicious.”
Tyrone’s grin widened at that, a look of anticipation crossing his face. “Does that mean you’re ready to tell them about us?”
I considered the question for a moment, weighing my options carefully. Part of me was ready to be open and honest with my children, to stop living this lie and finally be true to myself.
But another part of me was still scared – still worried about how they would react, still fearful of what the consequences might be if things didn’t work out between Tyrone and me.
“I want to tell them,” I said slowly. “But I’m not sure if I’m ready yet. I just need a little more time.”
Tyrone squeezed my hand then, offering me a look of understanding. “I get it,” he said gently. “And I’m willing to wait as long as you need me to. This is your decision, Brenda, and I’ll support you no matter what you choose to do
