Another band geek invites her to a party

"You know, some of us are meeting up at Ethan's house," Hannah told her as they finally finished putting everything away after the concert. "You should come."

They weren't close friends but were friendly enough: Hannah played clarinet and sat behind her, and never bullied her the way some other people did. Like Ethan, she thought, but didn't articulate that. Instead she smiled at the clarinetist and said, "Yea, maybe. I dunno. I'm pretty tired, you know?"

Hannah just gave her a look, a similar look to the one she'd given after previous concerts when she'd mentioned the same thing. That slightly exasperated, are-you-kidding-me, you-need-to-not-be-antisocial look Jenna had grown so accustomed to from so many people that thought her awkward shell was something she could easily get over.

But she was also trying to be better, more social. And maybe just this once, she could actually go. Even if it was Ethan's party, she could avoid him, right?
