Chapter 25

What will the two encounter?
Another attacker
Jol stepped to the right side of the elevator, waiting for it to arrive. When it does so, he saw Heren, who levelled her carbine towards Jol. The two fire, with a round lancing Jol's bicep as Jol put a round through Heren's sternum. A second punched through her chest, rupturing her lung as she staggers into the wall. A third blasts her collarbone before she falls over, heavily wounded. The hacker looked up to Jol who fired a final round that went between her eyes.
"Come on. We need to keep moving." Jol says.
"Jol... You're bleeding."
"Put the gel on."
"Okay."
Jol winced as Kira applied the Clot Gel she'd taken from Ismak. Then again, as much as it hurt, it still beat the alternative of bleeding out. As he took a break, he wondered why there was only one person waiting to ambush them. They obviously knew they were coming. Then again, there was only one thing he could do, so he took a deep breath before saying "Alright, let's go."
Inside the hallways, he found a sentry gun looming over the dead bodies of three guardsmen. The two move past the bodies and headed towards the briefing room. Jol knew it was one of the few places that wasn't protected by sentry guns, so maybe a guard or two had made it before everything went horribly wrong. To his relief, he found three guardsmen, including Jani.
"Jol? You're alive." Jani said.
"Yeah. It's a long story."
"Doesn't matter. At least you've got the princess."
"Yeah. I managed to get her away from the rest of the attackers."
"We heard the shots. H-how did you get passed the sentries?"
"The attackers were using these rings. They seem to prevent the targeting systems."
"Okay. So what now?"
"Well I was hoping to find other guardsmen to storm the control room."
The guardswoman nods. "Well Petir is in no shape to fight, but Antol and I can."
"Do you know how many are in the control room?" Asked the man holding the wound.
"No. I killed one in the elevator, but that's it."
"Well if we move now, we might catch them off guard." The other man said.
"That's what I'm hoping."
"Alright. Let's move." Jani said.
"We can't leave Petir. Not like this." Antol replied.
"Go..." The wounded man said. "I can watch the elevator. Buy you time if needed."
"We might need it." Jol remarked. Petir gave him a grim nod in reply.
"Fine. Let's move."
Jol handed out the rings before Antol dragged Petir to the elevator. There, he held his pistol, ready for any potential attackers as the other four moved forward. Antol put himself in front of the Princess as the last line of defense as Jol took the lead, using a mirror shard to look around the corner. He knew it'd only be a matter of time before a threat showed itself.
The group continued towards the control room. Before rounding the corner to the doorway, Jol spotted two sentry guns planted at the doorway. He looked to Jani before saying "Two portable sentries low. One left of the door, one right. You go low and take the right one. I've got the other."
"Copy that."
Jani stood next to Jol before popping out to the right with him. Both open fire on their targets, swiftly disabling the sentry guns. The two then moved towards the control room, scanning for more threats. To their surprise, they found none, so Jol shouted "Move up."
That's when gunfire comes from the distance.

For one hundred or so years, the Sidus Galaxy has been explored by its human empires during their Golden Age of Space Travel. To begin, this led to an age of exploration and discovery, but that all ended upon the discovery of Aurum Planets.
