Chapter 9
by FantasyXLit
What do you see?
Another Longship
The waves calmed as fast as they came. Still, the winds of the Valdhaf were strong and let you and your shipmates lay off the oars and relax a bit while other kinsmen work the sails. Again, as you gaze off into the sea, you start daydreaming about all the warm women who have shared your bed. This time though you are a bit more alert, letting you notice the glint of red among the vast blue green hues.
“Harek!” You call out. “There’s something to the east of us!”
“Where?” Harek asked as he hurried to your side.
Harek scanned the area you pointed to and quickly caught sight of a crimson colored sail bobbing close to the horizon.
“It’s a Norrvalr ship,” Harek said. “The sea snake head on its bow marks it as one of Agder’s fleet.”
“That bastard orc-humper is looking to sink more of our ships!” You hear Alrik say behind you.
“The horse-fucker killed my brother!” Belgr growled as he came next to you, watching the horizon. “I’ll send the murderer to Hel!”
Soon enough the whole boat is awash with oaths to slay every man on the approaching longship. That’s when Harek pulled you aside.
“Your father made you an oarsman to teach you a lesson,” Harek said. “But by rights this is still your ship. The gods have gifted me with second sight and I can see that ship has no luck.”
“What are you asking Uncle?” You say.
“Are you ready for glory nephew?” He smiled.
What do you you do?
