7am, a bedside clock radio clicked on and began playing the latest pop song. Fern, a young woman with dark hair and expressive green eyes, yawned and stretched and eased herself out of bed. Clad in a set of threadbare lilac pyjamas, Fern padded across her small flat to the kitchen to begin her day.

After a quick breakfast she dressed herself for work in her black blouse and black trousers, hesitating as she found the trousers a struggle to fasten.

"Stupid laundrette shrunk them," she grumbled, "no way I'm asking Tony for another pair, he makes enough comments about my bottom already!"

Once dressed, Fern left her flat to walk the few streets to get to her job. It was a journey she had made many times before, so often that now she went on autopilot, the sights and sounds of London fading into the background. She was so disconnected from her surroundings that she did not even notice an attractive blonde woman come running out of a shop door completely naked, squeal with embarrassment, and then flee up the road with only her arms wrapped around her body for cover.

Fern entered a department store by the employee entrance, clocked in, then took her place on the shop floor by a make up counter.

"Can I interest you in any products, madam?" She asked a passing customer, then when that one ignored her and walked past she turned to the next, "anything I can help you with?"

She heard the makeover chair behind her creak as someone sat down in it, and she turned around as a voice said,

"You know, I really think you might."
