Chapter 9
by Yabusa
What interrupts you mid-sentence?
Andrea needs to ruin Tori's life
You felt a hand grab your shoulder and tug you backwards, spinning you around to look at Andrea's most menacing expression, with tears welling in her eyes. "I said NO, Peter! How can you betray me like this! I thought you cared about me, not treat me like my concerns mean nothing!"
The stream of words continued for a solid minute, with Andrea somehow not seeming to take a breath the whole while. The verbal beatdown was extensive, with her growing louder and more animated every second. You tried to speak, but you couldn't get a single word in edgewise, as Drea started to shove you back against a wall, pushing a hand against your chest to pin you physically in addition to needling you with words.
To your surprise, though, Tori opened the door and walked out. "Hey, Drea, knock it off already," she said, trying to maintain a firm tone. Drea was as much a puzzle to Tori as the other way around, and few things frightened Tori but the sudden, aggressive argumentation that Drea often employed was one thing Tori did her best to avoid. Tori would rather track a bear to plant a tracking tag than deal with confrontation, instead trying to de-escalate a heated discussion her friendly attitude before it ever reached that point. To hear her actually directly challenge Andrea was a surprise.
Andrea turned, glaring at Tori as she set her sights on a new target to berate. "You're right, I should leave him alone, YOU'RE the problem here! You always are! Our life would be perfect if you weren't even here!"
While she winced at hearing something so hurtful from Drea, Tori dug in and persisted. "Sure, I am, it's not Pete's fault at all. I'm the one who told him that my friend backed out from letting me stay with her at the last minute, because I wanted to hang out with him more. So, don't be mad at him, he's a sweet guy, and he's a good friend." Tori glanced at you, with a hint of a smile as she said those words. Maybe you were the only person in the world for whom she would defy her own instincts to avoid confrontation. She wanted to come to your defense, even if it meant she would take the blame.
Of course, it wasn't true--at least, who to place blame on. In reality, Tori's friend did back out of being able to offer a room to her, but Tori didn't ask you if she could stay with you after that. She'd asked before that, and you'd brought it up to Drea, trying to find any way to alleviate Andrea's concerns with the arrangement, but nothing satisfied your girlfriend. You had felt her blanket refusal unreasonable, so when Tori mentioned that she was in a bigger bind than she had thought, you'd suggested she take your extra room and you just wouldn't bother with letting Andrea know. It seemed like for a short while, it would work out just fine until a better opportunity arose, but to be honest, you had sort of hoped that something else wouldn't come along. You could spend every waking minute with Tori's company, just talking about anything, and that made the day more interesting.
With Andrea, you didn't have such luck. You did have plenty of ways to connect with Andrea, you worked so well as a loving couple, but you didn't share a lot of hobbies with Andrea, and in a lot of aspects of life you two simply did your own things. There wasn't anything wrong with that, in itself. That should've meant that you could split your time between casual hangouts with Tori and a loving relationship with Drea, but the jealous streak in Andrea prevented that possibility.
And now, that jealous streak was manifesting in sheer anger. "You're right, you're the problem," Andrea said with a growl as she gestured at Tori. "Get out! Get out of this house!"
Tori shook her head, keeping herself speaking quietly and as calmly as she could. "That's Pete's choice, this is still just his place. If he tells me to go, I'll go. But that means I'm quite literally out on the street. I need a place to stay, I don't have any options right now."
"And you know what I need?" Andrea said, growing even more animated. "I need to destroy your life, so you will finally leave Pete alone so he'll stop going behind my back!"
Tori's hand started to glow purple, and she glanced down to see the energy, her face twisting into fear. "Oh no, no no no... please, take it back, Andrea, you don't need that..."
Andrea didn't seem to notice the glow, or didn't care what it was. "Oh, but I do. I need to ruin you, so you'll finally just go away and leave us alone!"
"DREA!" You shouted, trying to get in the way of her and Tori. "What the hell is wrong with you?! This is a disgusting way to talk about another person, especially my friend! Another word like that and you're not welcome in this house." Tori started to step forward, trying her best not to. She knew what she was being drawn into, but her curse was unable to distinguish benevolent versus malicious need, it treated it all the same.
Shocked by your ultimatum, Drea's mood changed, from loud and aggressive to internally simmering. "It's her or me, Pete. It has to be."
Tori shoved by you, and she reached out to Andrea, and pressed her glowing purple palm against the other woman. Gone in an instant, Tori channeled Andrea right into her. You couldn't stop it, you couldn't remove Drea from Tori, you could only look on in horror as a surprised Tori--with her hairstyle changed to match Drea's ponytail, but otherwise looking exactly like Tori would--glanced down at herself, before marching to the bathroom to look in the mirror.
"Oh my god, this is a nightmare, looking at her face as mine is ****!" Andrea shrieked, in Tori's voice. It was strange how closely she looked like Tori, when Lucinda had altered Tori's form so significantly. Why didn't you see many features of Andrea in the channeling? "Or maybe..."
Andrea turned back toward you, with a smirk on her face. "I can make her ruin her own reputation, with her own hands..!" Given that others might mistake this channeling as just a regular-looking Tori, it became clear: the channeling outcome would let Andrea make good on her promise. If you didn't act fast, Andrea could do some serious damage...
What does Andrea do with, or to, Tori?
Channelers
Unlike a possession, the bodies of channelers are taken over by other beings, and controlled to do all sorts of things...
An ancient curse on a selfish person had propagated through their family to the modern era, with no known means to break it. The curse is simple: if any creature or person has a need that the cursed subject can somehow help, they are to loan their body to the being in need until said needs are met, for up to a full day. This could range from rescuing a bird's eggs from a predator to an elderly person who needs an able body to go to the grocery store. No need is too big or too small, if the channeler senses the need from another nearby, they are compelled to loan their forms. Combined with other beings, the channeler's features alter to represent their controller: altered hair, altered faces, changes to a body type, gaining extra features like new ears or a tail, a channeler always resembles their original self but certainly can look quite unique with each new channeling session. Of course, this has other complications: the channeler may still 'fill in the blanks' in being human and maintain certain attributes like attraction to a partner, but the being in need, the controller, is the one in charge during that period. And they may behave completely differently when channeling! Will relationships be able to withstand a body that seems to constantly have a new personality every day, when a channeler might not even remember what happened? Will new relationships form with a specific channeled form, creating new complications? Or can others take advantage of the curse to get all sorts of unique, sexy encounters with new forms each time?
